As the economy sours and ad pages plummet, selling space has suddenly become a much harder job. But amid all the gloomy news, there's a small upside: Experienced, contact-rich advertising sales people are actually eking out compensation increases. A YEAR AGO, selling advertising was a very different proposition. "It wasn't even like sales; it was like taking orders," says Janet Stites, CEO and publisher of AlleyCat News, recalling the bonanza of ad pages flowing into her magazine. "It was like sitting at the Victoria's Secret call center and people calling in. So now it's a little harder."
Classic rock band Kansas will headline Faithful Shepherd Catholic School’s fourth annual Septemberfest, a two-night music festival in Eagan, on Saturday, Sept. 22. Known for classic rock hits — such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind"— Kansas is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its classic album, "Point of Know Return," which reached #4 on the Billboard album chart.
