Most brand advertisers use advertising agencies to buy advertising space and time in the media and create advertisements. Unlike marketing departments, which tend to be scattered over the country, the advertising agency business is highly concentrated in London, with regional centres in Manchester, Edinburgh and Bristol. This is largely because the UK national media are based in London and a vast network of ancillary services is available within a short distance of the West End. Agencies are in a very short-term market. Unlike lawyers and accountants, advertising agencies do not keep clients for very long periods of ... market research, surveys and trends
wearing many hats storyboard artists bring more than just a pencil ...
It usually starts with a phone call from an art buyer or art director needing a storyboard artist ASAP or the very next day. The request is for a really fast artist because the art director has a ton of frames, but only the budget for one day. Now the fun begins for me, and especially the artist who lands the gig. Once I have found what I hope will be the perfect person for the job it’s time for the storyboard artist to pack up their car with the many hats they wear on any given project. “Adaptability” is one of the characteristics I admire and really appreciate the most from the storyboard artist. After maneuvering city streets ... market research, surveys and trends

The art of the comic strip -- Next generation of Garry Trudeaus gets a lesson ...
It’s all part and parcel of being a cartoonist, says DiCarlo, who is teaching a comic strip drawing class for teenagers this month at the Derby Public Library. And it remains as relevant a talent today as it was years ago when comic strips were king, he adds. “This art form is the basis of everything,” explains DiCarlo, who lives in Derby and is director of the Valley Arts Council. “Movies start with storyboards. Animation starts with cartoon boxes. Painters start with sketches. On the Internet, cartooning is growing and growing.” For his summer classes, DiCarlo starts with fresh characters. LONE WOLF — You move to Hollywood with high aspirations to be the next big star. Instead, you end up starring in a commercial for toilet paper. What can we do about FREE pitching with the design industry ...
I suspect our definitions of pitching may differ - why do you feel it is exploitation? Why should anyone hire a design company unless they can show what they can do? UTC is odd enough that they might comply. As I said - our terms may be different. If I ask a designer, 'what can you do for my company?' I expect more than, 'we can come up with something after you hire us.' A presentation of what you have done for other companies is good, but it only goes so far. If you are worried about pirating then black and white, low resolution, images might be used, but it doesn't show your company off to best effect. ...

I've seen many user experience folks turn to the storyboard for explaining and researching everything from high-level strategic concepts to use cases. For an example of what I'm referring to check this out: The question is how much should a person charge for this work? I have an idea of what user experience professionals charge, but am not sure where this particular specification ...
