The support of the public health community for the FDA tobacco legislation currently before Congress continues to crumble. Last week, the National African American Tobacco Prevention Network (NAATPN) withdrew its support from the bill. Yesterday, seven former federal health secretaries wrote to every U.S. Senator, urging them to oppose the FDA legislation because of its sell out to Big Tobacco in exempting menthol from the list of flavorings banned in tobacco products. A lead article in the New York Times today explains that the menthol exemption is a compromise agreed to by public health groups (led by the Campaign for ...
Let's Closely Examine McCain's Record - HUMAN EVENTS
Following his wins in the South Carolina and Florida Republican primaries, Arizona Sen. John McCain has become the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination. He has spent the last year attempting to convince the conservative base of the Republican Party that he is one of them -- but his record in the Senate shows otherwise. Most voters know about his anti-free speech McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform. His temper is legendary, and his mistreatment of conservatives and fellow Republicans has earned him accolades from the liberal media who lovingly refer to him as a “maverick.” And he suffered a blow to his ... market research, surveys and trends

ANA - Advertising Community Opposes Tobacco Legislation
On behalf of the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) and the American Advertising Federation (AAF), we are writing to express our opposition to several of the marketing provisions of H.R. 1108, the "Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act." We take no position on the provisions of the bill that would generally grant the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to regulate tobacco products. However, we strongly believe that regulatory authority over the advertising of tobacco products should remain with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC has ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

In October 2000, Europe’s highest court struck down a Community directive that effectively banned advertising and sponsor-ship of tobacco products in the European Union. Regulation of tobacco products has been on the Community’s agenda for over a decade, but it was not until 1998 that the necessary political support to enact any such legislation became available. The broad scope of the ensuing directive reflected the increasing awareness of the harmful health effects of tobacco, but this remains a controversial topic. The court decision may only be a temporary victory for the tobacco lobby since the ...

They say they have the best interest of the animals in mind, but I don't believe it. Although I have no proof of it, I would suspect that many of their "under-cover videos" are even staged, which is sad. PETA kills animals: All the information on that site you can verify yourself if you're up for the digging. PETA is a tax-exempt organization, so all their yearly tax returns are available to the public. Also, they are categorized as a "humane society", so they have to keep records of animals taken in, animals euthanized, animals transferred, and animals adopted out. They also ...
Importing Djarum Black Cigarettes in California? - Yahoo! Answers
They were officially banned week of Sept. 22, 2009. I doubt you will get them passed customs if you order. The Feds track websites that sell stuff like that. This kind of thing makes it hard to just order a decent tobacco pipe from Canada! You may be able to order them but the odds of not receiving them are pretty high too. The Feds claim they are like a gateway cigarette or a 'trainer cigarette' (that one had me rolling on the floor the first time I saw it in print), if you smoke them you will soon need a different kind of smoke leading to greater health risks. You may have heard this mantra before? ...
