The Cream of the Creative Crop | Thoughts on Creativity
This was originally written for Inspiredology several weeks ago. The original link is here; I’ve republished it here. As we go about our busy days as designers, there’s precious little time that can be spent on keeping up to speed with the latest developments of the creative industry. Whether looking for inspiration, insight, knowledge or references, finding the time of day to sit down and read a magazine is tough. But the fact is that magazines — and I’m using this term to describe high-level, professional, themed content, regardless of the publishing medium — carry a special cache which results in a far greater ... market research, surveys and trends
If This Is A Blog Then What's Christmas?: What Can 'Moneyball ...
Although ITIABTWC leans towards the camel shaving side of things, it reserves the right to be about absolutely anything if the mood takes it. I'm reading a book called Moneyball. It explains how baseball started using statistics to recruit players instead of just relying on a scout's instincts. Apparently, these instincts were completely unreliable and gave very little real insight into which players a team should draft. Then, around the late seventies, nerdy types started accumulating proper observations to create statistics that were a much more accurate reflection of a player's worth. But it wasn't until ... market research, surveys and trends

For more than 200 years, the basic role of the USPTO has remained the same: to promote the progress of science and the useful arts by securing for limited times to inventors the exclusive right to their respective discoveries (Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution). Under this system of protection, American industry has flourished. New products have been invented, new uses for old ones discovered, and employment opportunities created for millions of Americans. Last month, I participated in the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. I won’t go too far into how the race went or my new found dislike for Fiesta Island and the 163 Freeway, but I will say, I was a little surprised by some of the advertising tactics displayed by some companies. Every participant should have known the event was put on to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society , an organization that I have been involved with for three years. With a lot of marathons, there is a corporate sponsor who spearheads the event. I knew in the past that PF Chang’s was the official sponsor of the the PF ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

More on raising the retirement age
Larry Mishel writes in with another argument for why raising the Social Security age makes much more sense for affluent individuals who work in knowledge-oriented industries than for lower-income people whose jobs require more physical labor. If the argument is that life expectancy is rocketing upwards, and that retirement shouldn't grow along with it, it's important to point out that the increases in life expectancy aren't being shared equally: Something to think about. I'd add a few other points. First, at what age do you want to retire? I'd imagine most affluent workers would pick a number higher than ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

R&R Partners, the Las Vegas-based advertising agency contracted to produce print and television ads for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the creators of the famed “What happens here, stays here” campaign, has won national and international recognition for some of its latest work. R&R won a Bronze Cannes Lion in the Travel, Transport and Tourism category in the 57th annual Cannes Lion International Advertising Festival for its “ChinChilli Day” TV ad spot in Las Vegas’ “What’s Your Excuse?” campaign. Is Art Direction dead? | LinkedIn Answers | LinkedIn
I heard recently that a highly regarded Creative Director from the LA area had "officially declared Art Direction dead." Does anyone second this declaration? Anyone care to defend Art Direction? A few have asked for clarification of the comments being debated; I believe the CD in question was saying that clients don't see a value in art direction, and that similar results were achieved by utilizing graphic designers or flash designers to tackle creative assigments. posted May 23, 2008 in Advertising | Closed Share This Attorney see all my answers Best Answers in: Advertising (2), Corporate Law (1), Employment and Labor Law (1)
