an audience (viewers, readers or listeners) to purchase or take some action upon products, ideals, or services. It includes the name of a product or service and how that product or service could benefit the consumer, to persuade a target market to purchase or to consume that particular brand . These brands are usually paid for or identified through sponsors and viewed via various media. Advertising can also serve to communicate an idea to a mass amount of people in an attempt to convince them to take a certain action, such as encouraging 'environmentally friendly' behaviors, and even unhealthy behaviors through food ...
Why 'Mad Men' makes me mad - Brand Republic News
I have to confess, I have this love-hate relationship with 'Mad Men', which just started its second season over here in the US, writes George Parker. After its first season the show won critical acclaim and a couple of Golden Globes for best TV drama and best actor, Jon Hamm, the guy playing Don Draper, Sterling Cooper's severely screwed up creative director, who is presented as some kind of reincarnation of Leonardo da Vinci. As Siskel and Ebert, the big-time movie critics here in the US used to say... "It's a one thumb up, one thumb down" kind of show. First, it's very well written, in terms ... market research, surveys and trends
The MPA Kelly Awards in New York showcase the best magazine ads in ...
Earlier this week, I attended and helped host the MPA’s 2010 Kelly Awards in New York. The Kelly Awards celebrate the best magazine advertising in North America. I also served as a judge for this year’s competition, an activity that I wrote about on a previous post. In addition, my agency, Euro RSCG was lucky enough to be one of 25 finalists for our work on Valspar paints. Historically, The Kelly Awards are known for the substantial cash prize given to winners of the Grand Kelly, for best print campaign in America. When I won it for Altoids, the prize was 100 grand! This year’s winner will receive 25K. Considerably less, yes, ... market research, surveys and trends

Corporate advertising in America: a review of published studies on ...
Advertising in America has historically been product oriented. However, with the advent of modern corporations with multiple product and/or service offerings, a different type of advertising has appeared, the primary purpose being to promote the corporation. "Corporate," "institutional," or "corporate image" advertising has been defined with some very basic consistency since the 1950's but has broadened to include "advocacy" and "issue" advertising (Ewing 1982; Heath and Douglas 1986; Heath and Nelson 1985) and the current "hybrid ads" (Winkleman 1985), ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Why Judging for International Awards Shows Is Broken
Each time I'm asked to judge an international creative competition, I'm honored. I love seeing the work. I love meeting the judges. I learn so much and I come away inspired. There's only one problem with judging international awards: It doesn't work. Don't get me wrong. It's fine when we're judging global campaigns aimed at a big, broad, multilingual audience. There's nothing wrong with a panel from around the world passing judgment on ads for universally known products such as Coke or Nike that can resonate universally. And usually a multilingual group of jurors has no problem judging ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
How fur trade created America's biggest fortune
"Fur, Fortune, and Empire: The Epic History of the Fur Trade in America" (W.W. Norton & Co., $29.95), by Eric Jay Dolin. Beavers are big rodents — some over 39 inches long — with floppy tails, teeth like chisels to gnaw wood and a reputation for hard work. They build rough dams to create ponds that protect the homes they can enter from below the water's surface. A huge rise in demand for the soft, woolly underlayer of beaver fur founded the fortune of John Jacob Astor, the richest man of the American 1800s. Fur had been an emblem of prosperity for centuries and a widespread taste for beaver hats arose ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Sucessful advertising in the 1920s? - Yahoo! Answers
In the 20's, people were not used to ads as we are now. Any message advertisers had in their ads, people took as true! An example would be a 1920's Camels (cigarette) ads which said "Camels are doctor's favourite cigarette", etc. Nowadays, we are surrounded (even bombarded!) with ads which makes them passive (we don't take everything literally now). Also, now we have the past to look at for mistakes and such, whereas when ads first appeared in the 20's, they did not have much competition. In conclusion, we are so used to ads these days that a company has to be very intelligent to ...
