This second session was an introduction to using social networking. There was a question that came up during the Q&A session that didn’t get to be fully addressed, so I’d like to expand on it here. The question was, “Can you talk about the ‘dark side’ of social networking? Can you talk about identity theft?” It’s true, social networking can be dangerous (cue the dramatic music). Some people are fearful of a computer virus (which can be valid if you click on links from people you don’t know or trust, or if a trusted person’s account has been hacked and the hacker sends you ...
is a broad term that emerged in the later part of the 20th century to encompass the amalgamation of traditional media such as film, images, music, spoken and written word, with the interactive power of computer and communications technology, computer-enabled consumer devices and most importantly the Internet. New media holds out a possibility of on-demand access to content any time, anywhere, on any digital device, as well as interactive user feedback, creative participation and community formation around the media content. What distinguishes New media from traditional media is not the digitizing of media content into bits, but ...
The Best and Worst of Government Websites
While reviewing the showcase, I found very few of the sites that actually impressed me with design, code or user experience as a whole. I decided to narrow down the list to the three of the worst and three of the best sites in the list, with justifications for each. Let me know what you think. #3: Saint Lucia ( ) Noupe phrased it well: “Saint Lucia’s website reminds me of the first website I made when I was about 7 years old using Yahoo! Geocities.” To elaborate, aside from the design being very outdated (and it being a very old, Microsoft-theme design), the coding of the site is ... market research, surveys and trends
PR man promises: Media coverage or don't pay me - mUmBRELLA
PR Jothy Hughes, who fell foul of Nine’s A Current Affair after hiring actors to fake a segment, has returned to the public relations industry with a new offering guaranteeing to work for free for clients unless they get media coverage.   Clients that have used Hughes’ agency Now Communications on that basis include Christopher Hanna Hair, Phytologic, Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) and Pharmacy Online, said Hughes. He said: “Monthly retainers will be nonexistent. It will be a very simple formula – Now Communications will get a client coverage on TV or radio, in newspapers or magazines and if they ... market research, surveys and trends

The spill in the Gulf of Mexico started as a news report of an explosion and eleven men missing. Only one sentence was dedicated to the oil spillage…saying only that a tiny amount was leaking. It has now grown and threatened the coastline of several states. It is telling a story much larger and much more damning to the shrimpers and the oil people. Here’s an example…reported by the New York Times. “About 35 endangered sea turtles have washed up dead on beaches along the Gulf of Mexico since Sunday, sowing fears that they were done in by the growing oil spill. But so far scientists have found no connection ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
advertising : The Business of MMA
The UFC has long guarded against much of its content appearing on Youtube, but the following promotional video featuring Paul Daley appears to eschew that tendency. It’s a well-produced and effective marketing tool that the UFC should try to encourage in the future. Payout Perspective: I’ve never exactly understood why the UFC is so strict with its content usage on video sharing websites like Youtube. Some of the stuff that these fans put together is absolutely brilliant – like “This is Semtex” – and it’s essentially a free and very effective promotional tool for the organization. These ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

"For too many years, we've turned our backs on our city. We've ignored the high crime rate -- and the low graduation rate. If you think it's time to turn Detroit around, join us. Volunteer. Tired of the city being blasted, some of the Detroit area's biggest advertising, film and marketing geniuses want to use that statement to create a positive image for Detroit and build an army of volunteers willing to commit time and money to help make the city a better place to live, work and visit. ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
