In the light of the reaction to the television commercial for Marie Stopes International transmitted on Channel 4 last night, I thought it would be helpful to reproduce the response of  the channel given to those objecting to the commercial. “This campaign was created and paid for by Marie Stopes. The advertisement has been approved for broadcast by Clearcast UK, who confirmed that it is compliant with BCAP’s Advertising Standards Code. In May Channel 4 broadcast a television advertisement for the sexual and reproductive health charity Marie Stopes. The charity says that its aim is to prevent unintended pregnancies and unwanted births. The advert, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom, has been criticised, largely by campaigners opposed to abortion. Tesco has had to withdraw an advertisement about its in-store bakeries after a complaint by the Real Bread Campaign was upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). KBP weighs in on commercial overload issue against ABS-CBN
Recent tabloid reports brought up an issue against ABS-CBN concerning apparent commercial overloading. Years ago, the volume on commercials was jacked up WAY high—I believe in the hope that if you went to the bathroom or out to the kitchen, you would still have to hear the ad. But the FCC ruled on it, and that was quashed.
