[of the United Kingdom] ruled eHarmony’s ad was misleading because it had made an “absolute claim” that suggested a “definitive figure” of marriages based on an extrapolated 2007 online survey. It said the ad also failed to make clear that in 20% of cases it was unable to find a match for people who registered.” – MarketingWeek , dated 18 November 2009 The “20%” is in their boilerplate rejection message , which has remained unchanged (unimproved?) since eHarmony started in 2000. The TV Show - Marie Stopes television commercial
In the light of the reaction to the television commercial for Marie Stopes International transmitted on Channel 4 last night, I thought it would be helpful to reproduce the response of  the channel given to those objecting to the commercial. “This campaign was created and paid for by Marie Stopes. The advertisement has been approved for broadcast by Clearcast UK, who confirmed that it is compliant with BCAP’s Advertising Standards Code. The BCAP Code contains robust rules about the nature and content of TV advertising and is considered to offer suitable protection for viewers against potential harm and offence. In May Channel 4 broadcast a television advertisement for the sexual and reproductive health charity Marie Stopes. The charity says that its aim is to prevent unintended pregnancies and unwanted births. The advert, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom, has been criticised, largely by campaigners opposed to abortion. Indeed the Advertising Standards Authority received 501 complaints in the week after. But the issue is not the rights or wrongs of abortion: those on both sides of the debate have serious cause for concern. Marie Stopes has shown that any charity may screen an advert on UK television and seek to advise ... market research, surveys and trends

KBP weighs in on commercial overload issue against ABS-CBN
Recent tabloid reports brought up an issue against ABS-CBN concerning apparent commercial overloading. Citing recent Nielsen hourly load tracking data from the period of June 26 to July 2, it was said that the network supposedly committed “61 cases of overloading.” To illustrate this point, the reports also cited that last July 1, ABS-CBN’s noontime show “Wowowee” had registered a “total of 34.5 commercial ad load minutes” during its 1pm to 2pm segment. Why do some commercials come on much loader than the show that ...
Years ago, the volume on commercials was jacked up WAY high—I believe in the hope that if you went to the bathroom or out to the kitchen, you would still have to hear the ad. But the FCC ruled on it, and that was quashed. However, the FCC DID have to set relative levels, and so while there’s a LIMIT to how high the advertising company can set the volume, the difference is especially noticeable if you’re watching a peaceful, quiet show (or a show at goes to commercial at a peaceful moment) and a “Crazy Eddie” loud commercial. It certainly can be more than a little jarring! What I’m surprised ...
