Social Media Gives Consumers a Microphone to Broadcast Their ...
In our consumption-oriented society, people love to talk about brands.  This isn’t a new thing-we’ve been defining ourselves by what we buy and where we shop for decades.  However, the rise of social media has given consumers a new venue to share their opinions and experiences about their favorite brands and products.  It also acts as a microphone, amplifying individual customer voices and allowing their opinions to influence more people than they would have been able in a less connected world. The results of a new Harris poll released last week show that consumers have been using social media to broadcast their ... market research, surveys and trends

establish a chic image. Teaming with Draftfcb, Kmart developed a two-pronged “Style Showoff” program to promote its new line of fashions for 2008. In February, a casting call went out to find the first four style-conscious women to be featured in a national ad campaign—for an unknown company.  Blind stores with makeshift runways were set up in high-traffic malls in New York and Los Angeles. A guerrilla marketing effort using street chalk and flyers augmented radio and local classified ads to spread word of the event.  Auditioning women modeled outfits they put together from racks of unlabeled Kmart ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Social Media: 'Agencies Don't Get It,' Survey Says
Clients are placing more emphasis on mastering social media but find their agencies ill equipped to help them succeed in that space, according to a new survey. TNS Media Intelligence/Cymfony polled more than 60 marketers in North America, France and the U.K. to gauge how they are faring navigating the world of social media. It asked them for feedback on their agencies' abilities to help. TNS found, in its words, "Agencies don't get it."   Clients complained that their agencies -- creative, media, public relations, design and others -- typically treat social channels like blogs as traditional media. Foursquare Frenzy
Dennis Crowley, co-founder of hot location-based social service Foursquare, addressed a roomful of marketers in June. He asked for a show of hands of how many had tried to work with the company but didn't hear back. A lot of hands went up. The simple message: the still-small company is struggling to further develop its service while responding to the avalanche of requests. Now, with $20 million in new funding, agencies are hopeful the digital world's new belle of the ball will build tools to help them use the service in deeper ways. Adweek spoke with several agencies that report frustrating experiences with Foursquare. ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Google Answers: Online Marketing Background?
Hello, I'm going to be meeting an online marketing agency and I was interested in building up my background on the subject. Off my head, these are my questions: 1. The different methods that have proved themselves. 2. New methods that are looking good. 3. How is online marketing able to deliver a better ROI compared to traditional means. 4. How measurable is the ROI online compared to off-line and why is that important? 5. Is it important to customize campaigns for specific types of viewership since online marketing allows that? How far can that go and how valuable in business terms is it? 6. I ...
