Westminster Abbey Part 1
The following day I was on a mission… I had a list and wanted to see the main and traditional sites of London. I have taken to writing lists of an evening so I make as much use of my day as possible. Come rain or shine I wanted to get everything done. Doing this, however, is probably not the best way to travel, it ends up becoming more of a “yes I’ve done it now”, rather than, “I am experiencing something”. I keep telling myself I need to slow down, that it is not a race. Mum always told me that I have always wanted to run before I could walk… hopefully this experience will finally teach ... market research, surveys and trends
munger on franchising, vertical integration, and the auto industry
about franchising, particularly car dealerships. Munger highlights how the dealers used state regulations to protect their profits and how bankruptcy appears to be unraveling that strategy. The main themes of the conversation are the incentives in the franchising relationship and the evolution of the auto industry in the United States over the last forty years. Intro. [Recording date: June 5, 2009.] Strange world of franchising and dealerships, retailing. Chrysler and GM are closing down a lot of dealerships. Apple has an Apple store; but GM cars are sold through a privately owned dealerships--franchising. Why does it exist? ... market research, surveys and trends

Ezra Klein - CBO: A Strong Public Plan Saves Lots of Money
In a bid to wrangle concessions from the Blue Dog Coalition on healthcare reform, House leaders Thursday released CBO estimates for liberals' preferred version of the public option that show $85 billion more in savings than for the version the Blue Dogs prefer. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, D-S.D., a Blue Dog co-chair, said any possible new momentum toward a public option tethered to Medicare rates is, in part, "because of the cost issue" and the updated CBO score. The original House bill required the public plan to pay providers 5 percent more than Medicare reimbursement rates. But as part of a package of ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
McDonald's | RestaurantNews.com
Frank Chalfont has a secret that only a person who has worked extensively with onions would know. Among top chefs, it’s probably not a big revelation. But to novice cooks, it’s a good trick. “Breathe through your mouth,” Chaflfont said. “If you breathe through your nose, you’re done.” As a McDonald’s owner/operator, the 48-year-old has chopped his share of onions, tomatoes and lettuce on the road to success. This month, he celebrates the renovation of his location on South Bay Street in Eustis, which first opened in 1973. As a franchisee, Chalfont owns the most McDonald’s in ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Hollywood Sign Trademarked? | Ask MetaFilter
I just got a cease and desist letter from a company that claims the Hollywood sign is one of it's clients. They are demanding monetary damages for a tourist photo of the sign I have on my website. Help. WTF? Etc. So I was at first assuming this was an April fools joke, but they do indeed claim the sign as a client . And they do send out cease and desists and demand damage payments for using the photo. And the Hollywood Chamber website does say you need permission to use images of the sign. This is news to me. Their claim is that the photo on my website "may represent an unlawful attempt to associate [my website] with the ...
Professional Pet Peeves | Ask MetaFilter
If it were me I'd try and keep in mind the mindset of the person professing the peeve. Some things which people would think of as a pet peeve of theres might actually be reasonable requests on the part of their customers or users. Other's might be actual pet peeves. To use your fast food example, I don't think special order requests are that picky. But I don't know to what level of pickiness you are referring.
