(Feb 11, 2009) This is surely a grim year for traditional media, and even the internet is seeing a slowing in growth, but one area of media appears to be doing well through this ad recession, and that's alternative media. By and large, media buyers and planners go out of their way to include alternative media elements on media plans they present to clients, and they also think spending on alternative media will be up this year over last. That's the outcome of a survey Media Life posted over recent days asking readers what sort of coverage of alternative media they'd most like to see in the pages of Media Life. Nielsen: Consumers Trust Online Opinions
When it comes to trust, personal recommendations and consumer opinions posted online are most valued by consumers worldwide. So says the latest twice-yearly Nielsen Global Online Consumer Survey, which gauged opinions from 25,000 Internet consumers from 50 countries. In fact, 90 percent of the respondents said they trust recommendations from people they know, while 70 percent said they trusted consumer opinions posted online. There's good news for advertisers, though. Brand Web sites were also trusted by 70 percent of those surveyed, making them as trusted as consumer opinions posted online.   "The explosion in ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Why American Apparel is going out of fashion
Bright and breezy, slightly sleazy, American Apparel is one of the most recognisable brands on the high street, whichever side of the Atlantic you are on. The Los Angeles-based retailer of monochrome wardrobe basics and fashion tchotchkes has courted scandal as assiduously as it courts its core demographic of waify teens and twentysomethings. After years of headlines about sexually charged advertising and accusations of sexual harassment on the part of the company's eccentric founder, Dov Charney, American Apparel looks like it is going down the way it came up: in a blaze of controversy. Pioneering new-wave band Devo and ad agency Mother delivered an irony-laden PowerPoint presentation today in New York at the Music and Advertising Conference co-sponsored by Billboard and Adweek. There are supplement companies that actually use the names of known anabolic and androgenic steroids. Some of these companies even claim this nonsense works better than steroids.I myself only use supplement with real clinically proven results.By that I mean university monitored, controlled and peer reviewed. It seems the worst thing now are "fat burners" and diet aids, some of which claim clinical proof, but don't give enough detail to determine whether these results are real. How is it the FDA does not evaluate these products and charge them with false advertising? 1 answer - asked 43 months ago
What Elements Result in an Effective Billboard Design? | LinkedIn ...
In my experience, billboard advertising generally falls into one of two categories: directional ("Holiday Inn at Exit 223") or as a supportive medium to other media within an advertising campaign. I believe that billboard messages should be no more than the very essence of the message that you're trying to get across in your newspaper, television, radio and other advertising. There's just not the space, nor time on the reader's part, to add anything more. As far as copy and design elements, I'd keep everything clean and uncluttered with as few words as you can manage.
