Facebook ad network Lookery hits its billion-impression target ...
a company that sells advertising on Facebook, and more recently also other social networks, and other web sites, has been scraping the bottom of the social network advertising barrel, and growing fast. Starting at the end of January, it began guaranteeing Facebook applications and more recently any other web site or widget a cool $0.125 per thousand ad impressions for any traditional banner ad it ran — a trivial amount for so-called cost-per-mille (CPM) ads. Lookery’s plan was to hit one billion impressions by April, then introduce demographic-targeting features that allow for better targeting of users, and for ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Exploring the Value of Buying on Engagement vs. CPM
The rapid rate of change in online media is one of the things that makes the business fun.  But not everyone is able to keep up.  Much of the advertising industry is mired in the past. Can you believe that halfway through 2010 companies still spend major ad dollars against numbers based on sample surveys? Here’s another example. Traditional media buying and planning is based on CPM (cost per thousand impressions). This model was developed for old media that wasn’t – and still isn’t – trackable. The Internet, of course, is trackable. So, why would an advertiser pay for “impressions” (the number of ads flashing before consumers) ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Facebook’s performance advertising system offers deep targeting and a large audience, but doesn’t have adequate controls or analytics for running large scale advertising campaigns. While some companies offer a licensed tool for ads managers to use themselves, and others provide full-service ad campaign execution, one who does both is TBG Digital. Cost Per 1000 Impressions
Maybe I'm just bored, but I beg to differ with the use of the word "cost" here when used in the Adsense Publisher reports. The ads don't "cost" me anything (except use of space). Rather, the ads "earn" money. Why don't they call it Earnings Per 1000 impressions? Because "CPM" (cost per thousand) is the term used in the advertising and publishing industries. I've been wondering about the same questions, but never bothered to post ...
