The gay market is sometimes referred to as DINKs -- double income, no kids -- who have the freedom to travel more often and higher "disposable incomes" to buy luxury items. However, this is changing as more gay families with children are emerging, from 1-in-5 men to 1-in-3 women having kids inside the household (per the 2000 U.S. census, see below) through previous opposite-sex marriages, adoption or natural childbirth. Analysis of the US Census also indicates that 57% of same-sex couples have both partners of a household working, compared to 48% of opposite-sex couples. As for earning, few agree on actual figures. I would say, in preface, that any not-for-profit organization that's spending 30-50% of its budget on fundraising is simply an irresponsible, mismanaged, or crisis-prone organization. An Icelandic airline published a full size ad in the largest newspaper in Iceland with a picture of one of their stewards dressed in drag. The title is Queen of the Skies! In the text they congratulate him for being crowned the Drag Queen of the Year and proudly announce that they are the main sponsor of the National Queer Organization and of the International Gay Football Tournament in April 2009.
