Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Advertising:Historical Timeline and ...
I was chatting with a fellow medical writing colleague the other day and the topic of direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising came up. I suggested that DTC advertising is largely ineffectual but my colleague suggested otherwise. To prove his point, he sent me a fascinating article entitled “Direct-to-Consumer Advertising: An Attitude Survey of Psychiatric Physicians ( Bhanji et al. Primary Psychiatry. 2008; 15(11):67-71) . The conclusion of the paper was somewhat surprising (to me anyway): ......pilot survey of psychiatrists revealed that DTC advertising has the potential to improve awareness of medical conditions ... market research, surveys and trends

The drug industry's chokehold on America's health care
Major pharmaceutical companies have been hit recently by an array of scandals regarding the safety of certain “ blockbuster” drugs. Merck’s Vioxx, a leading arthritis and pain medication was withdrawn from the market after it was shown to have caused thousands of heart attacks and an estimated 55,000 deaths. Its leading competitor, Celebrex, manufactured by Pfizer, faces similar difficulties. Other drugs, including over-the-counter remedies, are also being scrutinized for severe, unwanted side-effects. On December 18 the Detroit Free Press released its own analysis concluding that many thousands of Americans are getting sick and ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Weight-Loss Drugs: Hoopla and Hype - New York Times
Do these promises sound too good to be true? Well, they are. They are among hundreds of advertising claims and testimonials touted by sellers of over-the-counter weight-loss remedies. They appear in leading magazines and newspapers, on television infomercials and the Web. And millions of people succumb to the pie-in-the-sky promises every day, throwing away good money and, sometimes, their good health along with it. More than $1.3 billion a year is spent on dietary supplements for weight loss, most of which have had little or no scientifically acceptable testing for effectiveness and safety, especially when used for months. John McCain, JD Hayworth also battling own pasts
John McCain launched his bid for a fifth Senate term as one of the best-known politicians in Arizona history. Having just topped the Republican presidential ticket two years ago, McCain is a household name not just in his home state but across the country. His main primary rival, J.D. Hayworth, also is familiar to Arizonans, though not nearly on the same scale as McCain. But Hayworth has been in the public eye for more than 20 years as a TV sportscaster, a six-term congressman and, more recently, a radio talk-show host. new link trend that is worrying
You can put some code server side that inserts some links randomly on your site pages. 1000's of others do the same and your link appears at random on other peoples sites. Yahoo and msn pick the links up within a few days and then come the serps. Really good because no reciprocals, 1000's of participants and kicks ass rankings with no effort. The only problem is that there you do not know where your links are going to appear and as the popularity increases so will the crap. The point is not to get away with it. Because it isn't doing anything wrong. Otherwise, perhaps we should punish everyone with advertising on ...
