The survey, by the National Centre for Social Research, aimed to give an overview of the legal services market before full implementation of the Legal Services Act and the arrival of ABS. The telephone interviews were carried out between March and June 2009. The most ...

What are you no longer doing?? « The Legal Watercooler
At the end of the call I was asked if there was a question that they hadn’t asked? I thought for a few moments and came up with one: What am I not doing today that was standard/common practice a few years ago? Very quickly I popped out my answer: Advertising . After 30 Years, Law Firm Advertising Is Slow to Change
In the early days of attorney advertising, law firms created ads to demonstrate their unparalleled integrity and resourcefulness. Some three decades later, law firms are creating ads to demonstrate their unparalleled integrity and resourcefulness. Although firms themselves have undergone profound changes since the U.S. Supreme Court decided 30 years ago this month that even lawyers were entitled to free speech, the profession's advertising manner and message -- especially among the larger firms -- have evolved very little in those 30 years, according to many industry observers. Law Firm Marketing : Real Lawyers Have Blogs
A parody here, but it seems strange that law firm marketing professionals even discuss which law firm websites are better for marketing and business development. I was speaking with a law firm Chief Marketing Officer this week about what his group was working on. He talked of adding new business development professionals, working with lawyers on what they need to keep in mind in their business development efforts, and particular efforts underway to build relationships with people in certain industry segments. At the end of our talk, he mentioned they were also doing an upgrade to their website. I asked if he expected the website ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

How far can RIAs go with advertisements?
I rarely go to concerts, because I’m a couch potato and most musicians from my youth are dead. James Taylor and Carole King, however, are alive and well and were performing at an arena in Fort Lauderdale. They were great, of course, but I made a startling discovery: There are now advertisements on urinals. In this particular case, it was a law firm advertising on the urinal. Back when I went to law school, attorneys didn’t advertise on television, let alone on urinals. Aside from television commercials that make me cringe, the ABA Journal recently reported that one law firm advertised its services on a hot dog cart ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Do your firm’s communications suffer from capitalization creep? It’s an insidious virus that infects the writing of many a professional — lawyers chief among them — resulting in an over abundance of capitalized words on a page. Legal contract writing encourages this behavior of capitalizing words as a way to personify or make them formal subjects of a document. Writers will often capitalize a word to give it extra importance. But don’t allow that logic to creep into your marketing writing. A handy weapon in the fight against capitalization creep in your firm’s public facing communications is a style ...
