Newspaper Classifieds Advertising Services

newspaper classifieds advertising services special research report Photo by c.markosweb.com
A leading global rating agency reported this week with a negative outlook on the newspaper industry. The less than positive outlook was a result of poor profits in the area of classified advertising affecting print publications. Fitch Ratings, a global rating agency, expects soft revenue and pressured profitability due to weaknesses in high-margin classifieds. According to Fitch, year-to-date (which is through July of 2007) operating performance for some of the largest newspapers has been weaker than the rating agency initially anticipated. As a result, the agency's outlook for the newspaper industry remains negative. ...

Google Takes The FTC To School | Daype Classifieds
Google just issued a response to the Federal Trade commission’s staff discussion draft on potential recommendations to support the reinvention [read: preservation] of journalism [read: newspapers]. (here was my reaction). It’s a wonderful document that takes the FTC – and the news industry – to school on the First Amendment, copyright, fair use, antitrust, media history, business, and technology. The government and publishers should be embarrassed to need such remedial education. Highlights : This says it best: The large profit margins newspapers enjoyed in the past were built on an artificial scarcity: Limited ... market research, surveys and trends

The Wounded U.S. Newspaper Industry Lost $7.5 Billion in ...
Last year was the worst on record for the U.S. newspaper industry.  Total advertising revenues (both print and online) declined 16.6 percent to $37.85 billion, according to the latest figures from the Newspaper Association of America .  That is $7.5 billion less than in 2007.  Print advertising alone declined 17.7.  Classifieds were down 29.7 percent. And even online advertising was down 1.8 percent to $3.1 billion. Newspapers are shuttering their print editions, laying off staff, or closing entirely as a result of this severe contraction in revenues brought on by the double whammy of economic recession and competition from the ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

on the critical question of how much of the recent plunge in media companies’ fortunes has been a cyclical decline versus a secular one. It’s obviously some of both, but the mix will decide what the next five years look like for magazines and newspapers, the critical providers of original reporting in the country. Alas, I’ve crunched some numbers on the industry and they’re beyond ugly. First, some definitions. A cyclical decline is one due to the inevitable ups and downs of the broad economy. Most businesses get hurt in the recession part of a cycle but do well in the expansionary part and their fortunes ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Google Answers: Newspaper Advertising --- Cheap!
Hi There! I need to advertsise (display ads, not classifieds) in newspapers. But I don't know what I am doing. I found a web site (www.mss-standby.com) which will place newspaper ads at 50%-80% off retail. Being a cheapskate, I was impressed ! Apparently, MSS specializes in "standby rates" or "remnant rates." When the newspaper is just a few hours from being printed, there are often "holes" where additional ads can be placed.
