We are seeing more startups like Facebook and Twitter that don't start out research-driven or data focused, but then need to use data and research to monetize through personalization, targeting offers and ads, product recommendations, premium products, and other forms of intelligence. Supposing this hypothesis is correct, we need to understand how to do research-driven data startups. Solving problems with products, build on research, driven by processing data The value proposition of the kinds of research-driven data startups that interest me is a straightforward chain. The strike's goal was to rectify what was perceived as a historical injustice: the greatly diminished monetary compensation the writers got in comparison with the profits of the larger studios. It was targeted at the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), a trade organization representing the interests of 397 American film and television producers. The most influential of these are ten corporations: CBS (headed by Les Moonves ), MGM (headed by Harry E. Branch Banking – A Cat With Nine Lives » MASMI, They, Research ...
Branch banking is dead!  Technology is killing the retail branch!  The Internet rules!  Younger tech savvy customers are taking over as the brick & mortar customers die off! Maybe.  But to-date we have not quite lopped off the head of the face-to-face banking Hydra.  Things may be different in twenty years, but they’re not dramatically different today. But we like being in denial.  Every time we are confronted with evidence of the survival of branch banking we find ways to dismiss it.  For example, research in the UK published by Deloitte & Touche in September 2002 found that 80% of bank customers use the branch, and 52% ... market research, surveys and trends

Although InStyle has enjoyed an ... market research, surveys and trends

Market research firm T3i Group recently released a report predicting that the global interactive voice response (IVR) market will grow to $514 million by 2013, up from an estimated $431 million this year, due in part to the growth in voice XML (VXML) technology. The firm's "InfoTrack for Converged Applications 2008 IVR Market Report" forecasts that 95 percent of IVR ports shipped in 2013 will support VXML, compared with less than 75 percent today. VXML enables Web sites to offer the same text-based applications, such as order entry, with speech recognition. As is to be expected, the top three types of IVR ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Palin charges Obama response to oil disaster is driven by BP ...
that during the last 20 years, the company and its employees gave more money to President Obama than any other federal political candidate. On Fox News Sunday, Sarah Palin tried to make it into a wider narrative. “I don’t know why the question isn’t asked by the mainstream media and by others if there’s any connection with the contributions made to President Obama and his administration and the support by the oil companies to the administration,” she said.  Think Progress has the story on this inane charge in this repost (which is followed by a Media Matters excerpt). I believe I need a database, but how do I start the process?
Since this is a request for "generic guidance" the subject matter for the database could be real estate, jobs listings, equipment for sale, event info, directory listing, etc. Assume that I can craft the HTML, CSS, graphics, site nav, etc. and that I'm "only" asking for guidance about the "interactive programming" issues, if that makes sense. ;) (If not, say so.) I assume I need provide the following information to a database programmer: List of the data I wish to retrieve/store (name: first, last, middle initial; street address, etc.) List of "types of searches" I wish to enable (search by price, State, etc.) Security ...
