Behavioral targeting (BT), with which advertisers direct particular commercial messages to specific individuals based on a range of observed online behaviors (including sites visited, content examined, and searches made), is quickly becoming a dominant form of Internet advertising. Even as the technique grows in popularity among advertisers (and BT is expected to reach $4.4 billion in U.S. ad expenditures by 2012, a nearly six-fold increase over the $775 million spent in 2008), it continues to evolve, becoming ever more targeted as it draws on and compiles a growing range of data points. Some authors have restricted the definition to deal only with knowledge of social situations, perhaps more properly called social cognition or social marketing intelligence , as it pertains to trending socio-psychological advertising and marketing strategies and tactics. According to Sean Foleno, Social intelligence is a person’s competence to comprehend his or her environment optimally and react appropriately for socially successful conduct. Communities Dominate Brands: Second Life
It seems that the years ending in 9 make great moments for inventions, and there are truly massive ones for us to celebrate. But also, there are a number of interesting ones in years that are at the mid-point, ie 25 or 15 or 35 year anniversaries. Lets celebrate in order of age: Just now, actually literally on 29th of October is the 40th anniversary of the internet, as Professor Leonard Kleinrock of UCLA made the first connection and communication with Stanford Research Institute, connecting the first two 'nodes' of the ARPANET what later became the internet. Why do people take intelligence as a born-only trait? | LinkedIn ...
There has been massive research on whether intelligence is "nature ot nurture", but despite that there is no definitive answer, however most of the evidence suggests that it is mostly or entirely "nature" i.e. a born trait. Classic examples for this type of research are "twin studies", where you consider identical twins who were seperated either at birth or soon after and spent at least their childhood in different environments. If somethng is a biorn trait then you see they have about the same, despite the differnces in upbringing, and this is what we generalle see for intelligence. However a lot depends on how we test ...
Using sexual attraction to advertise insults men's intelligence ...
I read a question about how advertising that uses semi-naked women is treating women as sex objects but I see this differently. I think it's treating men like they have no intelligence and are just simple minded creatures that think with their trousers. For example, some adverts such as for motorbikes, cracking sites etc all use semi naked women to advertise something. Presumibng just because there's a naked woman on that motorbike means that the men will want to buy that one, or sing up to that hacking site! I think it's unfair on men to presume that they are that unintellignet that they will spend ...
