I admit that, like most everyone, I gravitate to anything that tends to validate a point of view I already have. Sensing that was the case here, I clicked on the link. For your convenience, here is the link without the shortened URL, so you can see the domain in advance: The link leads to a blog post by Cory Treffiletti. And my expectations turned out to be completely wrong. Based on the title of Cory's blog post, I was prepped and ready for some observations about how social media is turning out to be just high school writ large (like, globally), with ... market research, surveys and trends

THE DRIVEN MEDIA ONLINE WEBSITE | For people in public media
Draft rules for allocating CPB Community Service Grants to public TV stations recommend a new wave of incentives for mergers and other joint operations. ¶ The incentives — ranging from $500,000 to $1.5 million per station — plus economic pressures from the recession, could give an extra push to CPB’s ongoing matchmaking efforts. These are hard times for soft news in media
We’ve seen the trends: Newspapers are closing or shifting to online-only publication. Of the daily newspapers still published in print, the business and features sections are often reduced to a couple of inside pages, with column widths getting very thin. The local TV news segments include more and more national feeds. Reporting staffs are shrinking too. A handful of multitasking journalists are snapping photographs, shooting footage and writing copy. These downsizing trends of traditional media often translate into less coverage of “soft” and feature news. However, securing a story in the newspaper or on the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
