• Why are we continuiing to send billions of dollars to Iraq, Afghanistan and other trouble spots while New Orleans and the Gulf Coast remain in turmoil? A Jan. 17 New York Times article by David Leonhardt projected that the overall cost of the war in Iraq would be a whopping $1.2 trillion. Leonhardt calculated that the war is costing more than $200 billion each year right now. The Pentagon recently reported that it now spends roughly $8.4 billion per month waging the war in Iraq, while the additional cost of our engagement in Afghanistan brings the monthly total to a staggering $10 billion. • How dirty will ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Poll: Most won't pay to read newspapers online | Digital Media ...
With traditional print newspapers struggling to turn a profit, many have turned to the Web as a means to stay afloat. While some offer their online content free of charge, other papers have played around with subscriptions by charging readers a monthly fee. But that strategy may backfire, says a Harris poll released Wednesday. Among more than 2,000 online adults surveyed, 77 percent said they wouldn't pay anything to read a newspaper's stories on the Web. And among those willing to pay, 19 percent would cough up between $1 and $10 a month; only 5 percent would shell out more than $10 each month. The poll also revealed ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

The Seminar for Iranians Abroad: Millions of Tomans For a Message to Obama
Tehran last week witnessed a seminar that brought hundreds of Iranians living abroad into Iran. But its chief organizer, Esfandiar Rahim Mashai who is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's chief of staff and also in charge of the affairs of Iranians outside the country, came under harsh public criticism. But not from moderates or the president's opponents. They came as much from the ruling faction's members. Kayhan newspaper, whose editor in chief is directly appointed by ayatollah Khamenei himself and which is a staunch supporter of the president wrote that the seminar was an "indication of misuse of the president's ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
M&M MEDIA GROUP, INC. v. REGENCY OUTDOOR ADVERTISING, INC.
Defendant Regency Outdoor Advertising, Inc. (Regency) seeks reversal of the trial court's order denying its motion for costs and attorney fees in an unlawful detainer action brought by Plaintiff M&M Media Group, Inc. (M&M). HANDOUT: The Language of Advertising Claims
In the essay that follows, Jeffrey Schrank gives a list of the techniques advertisers employ to make claims for their products. Written by a teacher, this selection should serve as a tool: its classification of advertisers' promises and claims can be used to analyze and evaluate the fairness of the language in many ads. As you read it, consider additional ad claims that fit within each of Schrank's categories. Students, and many teachers, are notorious believers in their immunity to advertising. These naive inhabitants of consumerland believe that advertising is childish, dumb, a bunch of lies, and influences only ...

Why can't Google display in a language based on my browser ...
my first language is English (British) - my browser preference is set to transmit to websites that I prefer en-gb, my OS is also in English. I am also logged into my Google Account, where all my preferences are set to British english. Why then does google choose to totally ignore all this and simply assume that since I'm in Hungary (based on IP), I want to be served Hungarian language pages and content. What's even more irritating is that if I go to google.com then manually select to be using Google.com - it forgets this if I close the browser and reopen it.
