The Misunderstanding Of Advertising

.”  The basic point of the article was summed up in the subtitle: “When Marketing Decisions Are Based on Numbers, We Lose the Desire to Be Creative.” The author seems to assume that creativity applies only to ideas and not to numbers. If I’m reading him correctly, I believe he is wrong and that his clients are missing out. Contrary to Sarkissian’s assertion that metrics are killing creativity, I believe that it is the denial of accountability that is at fault. By not engaging with metrics and helping clients get creative with them, agencies are creating a rod for their own backs. You cannot blame metrics for killing anything.
Under New Zealand's political system, parties may only spend, during the 90 days before the election, up to a certain amount on campaigning (excluding broadcasting). They must raise that money from their own sources. 1 Other funds are available through The Parliamentary Service to Members of Parliament for "parliamentary purposes", which may include advertising but not "electioneering material". 2 Following the 2005 election, there was widespread debate as most parties had breached either election or parliamentary spending rules in some respect. Exclusive: Mark Rein's indie apology | Game Development | News by ...
Epic vice president Mark Rein has handed Develop a copy of his email apology to Cliff Harris of Positech games, explaining his recent input at the Develop Conference in Brighton. On Friday Harris published a blog post heavily criticising Rein's comments during a panel hosted by Develop at the recent conference. In his post Harris, who was one of the four speakers on stage for the 'Rise of the Micro Studio' conference session last Wednesday, suggested that Rein looks down 'on humble indies'. The accusation came in response to Rein addressing the panelists from the front row of the audience area during the ... market research, surveys and trends
The confusion surrounding the word “campaign” « Marketing Campaign ...
I often ask marketers to tell me about the integrated marketing campaigns they are running.  Here are a few common responses: We’ve been running a Google Adwords campaign for the past 2 years. We’ve got a new PR campaign kicking off next week. Our print advertising campaign has been reduced to 3 insertions due to budge cuts. These answers highlight a common misunderstanding of the word “campaign.”  Is the “campaign” a singular tactic?  Or, is it something more?   Are there lots of campaigns, or only a few?  When it comes to integrated marketing, there are strategic as well as tactical ... market research, surveys and trends

Poll: 'Capitalism' support low - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
WASHINGTON -- Capitalism, the bedrock of the U.S. economic system, isn't a favorite term these days among American citizens, opinion surveys show. The Chamber of Commerce released a poll Tuesday showing that 57 percent of Americans say they support capitalism, compared with more than 70 percent who back free enterprise and free markets. Polls by the Gallup Organization and the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press earlier this year found similar lower levels of enthusiasm for the term. Epic vice president Mark Rein issues apology to indie dev
Last week, indie developer Cliff Harris posted a scathing blog direct at Epic Games vice president Mark Rein. The rant was directed at Rein following comments allegedly made during a panel Harris was part of during the Develop conference. Today, Rein himself has responded, apologizing for his out-of-turn comments, and clarifying his statements. The full email, a personal apology to Harris (as published by Develop ), can be found after the jump. On a personal note, I've never dealt with Rein on the business end of gaming, so I can't speak for his character in those regards. As successful as Epic is, it's obvious he ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Tobacco row: Progress in preventing teen smoking is stalled. Texas should help ...
The bad? While teen smoking dropped from 34.8 percent to 21.9 percent between 1995 and 2003, it's been all but stalled since then. It's holding at 19.5 percent of the high school population as of mid-2010, according to a biannual study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this month. That's well short of the target set 10 years ago in the federal government's "Healthy People 2010," which was to reduce the numbers of teen smokers to 16 percent of the high school population by 2010. We're not even close. Translated into life-and-death terms, the difference is 146,000 ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

An existential nightmare in Olde Club: "The Misunderstanding" to ...
As the Drama Board production of Camus's "The Misunderstanding," sails into Olde Club this weekend, it leaves the minor existential gloom of an infinite parade of indie rock bands in the dust. The story can briefly be described as "The Return of Martin Guerre" gone horribly wrong. A mother (Katie Sauvain '09) and daughter (Randall Johnson '09) run an inn in an isolated, bleak town. The family's son (Javier Camacho '09) returns to his family after 20 years, unrecognized. What Is This Creepy Site Advertising? | Ask MetaFilter
What the heck is "the purification dot org" all about? (I'm not linking to it directly because I have a hunch it's just a particularly enigmatic viral marketing ploy.) (This came to me via a friend via IM. I haven't been able to ask him where he got it.) The page is just a single flash movie with a countdown. I didn't work out the math exactly, but I think it's a countdown to November 15, 2006. There's five sub-countdowns that appear if you mouse over them. Going clockwise from the lower left-hand side, they appear to be pointing to Nov.9, Oct.19, Nov.6, Oct.23 and Oct.31. The domain's ...
