Fido's food may be making kids sick, a government report warns, detailing the first known salmonella outbreak in humans, mostly young children, linked to pet food. The outbreak sickened 79 people in 21 mostly eastern states, between 2006 and 2008. Almost half of the victims were children aged 2 and younger. Dry pet foods are an under-recognized source of salmonella infections in humans, and it's likely other illnesses since then were unknowingly caused by tainted pet food, said Casey Barton Behravesh, the report's lead author and a researcher at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. VIDEO: 'Casino Jack's' debut brings back memories of Tribal time ...
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The best connected, most highly paid and influential lobbyists in Washington weren’t about to let a couple of stubborn Native Americans or a small-town newspaper get in their way. Bulldozing anyone who got in their way was, after all, how uberlobbyist Jack Abramoff and his crony, Michael P. Scanlon, worked. When they engineered the election of a compliant majority on the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council in late 2001, it wasn’t the first time they’d used their political skills to take control of a government of indigenous people. “The Slate of Eight decided I was a threat and had to ... market research, surveys and trends

Jobs Picture Dims As Unemployment Claims Rise - Money News Story ...
The economy is looking bleaker as new applications for jobless benefits rose last week to the highest level in almost six months. It's a sign that hiring remains weak and employers may be going back to cutting their staffs. Analysts say the increase suggests companies won't be adding enough workers in August to lower the 9.5 percent unemployment rate. First-time claims for jobless benefits edged up by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 484,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. That's the highest total since February. Analysts had expected claims to fall. Initial claims have now risen in three of the last four weeks ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Google Answers: Research/due diligence on a business opportunity
digimav-ga, Whew! Ordinarily, in the course of a due diligence project, one usually comes away with a clear-cut sense of a company. They're successful; they're not successful. They're upstanding; they're a scam. Their future looks bright....or dim! Such, alas, is not the case with Y2Marketing. While there are certainly a good many red flags that came up in the course of my search, there is also a fair bit of the American-dream-two-guys-making-it-big aspect to the company. Though they went bankrupt, who knows whether they will rise from the ashes or not. What I have is many pieces ...
Aside from cherries or grapes, what would you grow on 100-300 ...
Well, from my point of view as a native west Michigander, why you'd grow anything else but cherries or grapes is beyond me :) But sure, those crops do very well in that climate and soil. Apples do very well, also. There are also opportunities for strawberries, blueberries, pears, apricots, and many vegetables (we used to grow asparagus). Now I'm hungry! Seriously, this is really a good question. I'd start with talking to the local MSU Agricultural Extension office for your county. It's not clear if you're actually in or just near Grand Traverse Co., so you can look up your local Ag Extension office ...
