KENTWOOD -- After years of struggles capped by the bankruptcies this year of General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Group LLC, auto parts maker Meridian Automotive Systems filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation Friday. The Allen Park-based company has been selling off its remaining assets and contracts, including former Lescoa and American Bumper operations in Kentwood and Ionia. In July, Meridian sold two plants in Ionia, at 14 and 29 Beardsley St., and plants at 3075 Breton Ave. SE and 2890 29th St. SE in Kentwood to Flex-N-Gate Corp. , of Urbana, Ill.
