The Housing "Recovery" Is Just Another Government Subsidy, Says Whalen (Tech Ticker Video...could cost $1 trillion for Freddie, Fannie, FHA) In recent months, that recovery has started to wane, but in many parts of the country, prices are still higher than they were a year ago. And that's welcome news for anyone who owns a house, makes their living selling or building houses, or is underwater on their mortgage. But it's all a mirage, says Chris Whalen, managing director at Institutional Risk Analytics. Or, more accurately, it's all a product of government subsidies. The Greek debt crisis with its dramatic spillovers are clearly a sequel of the catastrophic financial earthquake of 2008, and, at the same time, an early warning of the kind of situations that the world financial system will have to manage in the years to come. Alas, the Greek crisis in Europe is being dealt with an astonishing mix of backward-looking conceptual mistakes and political myopia. Those who are eager to give a hard lesson to Greece are the same who hailed the Lehman's bankruptcy ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Our nanny, who is otherwise *perfect*, just informed us that she is pregnant. She would like to continue working through the pregnancy and after her child is born. Is this a good idea? Our plans mostly involve drinking and beaches, but I'm wondering what I should check out before/after the island, in Athens or otherwise on the mainland. Bonus points for interesting things that aren't complete tourist ...
