I took on defining one of the biggest buzzwords of the last 5 years, Innovation. I did not propose my own definition; instead I referenced a study on the historical evolution of the term. In this blog I attempt to do the same for the biggest buzzword of the year - Social Media. Unlike Innovation, Social Media does not offer us a similar historical record, so this blog examines current Social Media definitions and presents them to shed some light on this topic. A good place to start is Wikipedia . Wikipedia defines Social Media as: "... content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies. ...
who came to prominence in the 1950s, and the cultural phenomena that they wrote about and inspired (later sometimes called " beatniks "). Central elements of "Beat" culture include a rejection of materialism , experimentation with drugs and alternate forms of sexuality, and an interest in Eastern religion . The major works of Beat writing are Allen Ginsberg 's Howl ( 1956 ), William S. Burroughs 's Naked Lunch ( 1959 ) and Jack Kerouac 's On the Road ( 1957 ). Both Howl and Naked Lunch were the focus of obscenity trials that ultimately helped to liberalize what could be published in the United ...

In cross-age peer mentoring programs, high school students mentor younger students. Prior research demonstrates the positive effects for mentees as well as for mentors. This context-based, strengths-promoting intervention is designed to help school counselors foster high school students' leadership and collaboration skills while simultaneously promoting elementary and middle school mentees' connectedness, self-esteem, and academic achievement. Many students of the new democracies that have emerged over the past decade and a half have emphasized the importance of a strong and active civil society to the consolidation of democracy. Bay Village Green Team helps to sow community garden idea
Last weekend, the city’s Green Team kicked off a collaboration between the city, school district, at least two of the city’s six churches and anyone else looking to get their hands dirty. The venture officially began on Saturday in the former Bay Montessori lot. Its goals include educating youth and veteran gardeners alike, while generating organic produce for participants and local hungry families, according to Bob Shields, a Green Team spokesman. “It’s another place for us to come together with a shared interest,” Shields said. “The Green Team’s about sustainability . . . it’s ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Ford's American Journey 2.0 – Redux
’s twitter stream the other day, I learned that AJ was hungry (“AJ needs food. (Fuel level is 24%)”), and was having a generally good day (“No rain…no pain! Current conditions: fair (day)”). For a split second, I forgot that AJ is one of two net-connected 2011 Ford Fiesta test cars on the roadtrip of a lifetime. The roadtrip is the culmination of a yearlong Ford initiative called American Journey 2.0, a joint open innovation research project, supported by Microsoft and Intel, offering a group of University of Michigan students a chance to define the future in-car experience. AJ’s roadtrip started in Ann Arbor, Mich. and ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Work can be fun and fulfilling! That's a bold statement for a generation who grew up with the philosophy of "that's why they call it work." As we cross the threshold into the next brave new world, "work" will take on a new focus beyond traditional business systems. Development of a conceptual framework using creativity and innovative action to complement the process for collaborative work, will be the key. System's theory, leadership styles, continuous quality / performance improvement, teams, productivity are all the current business channels for this application. However, in order to be competitive, ...
What are the tenets of Web-2.0 ?? | LinkedIn Answers | LinkedIn
It's a little bit of a trick question (as Tim Berners-Lee thinks) because "Web 2.0" is a market basket of emotional and intellectual ideas -- comparable to any "ism" in political science. You sort of know it when you see it, but defining it meaningfully is a challenge. That said, in starkest terms to me it is not about technology, look, feel, design, bells, whistles, etc, but about fundamental functionality. What do you with the website/s and what do they do with/to you? Web "2.0" is something you use differently than Web "1.0" and Web "3.0" will, presumably, be something you use more differently -- but if the difference ...
