His awards include a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award, an Okawa Foundation Fellowship, a teaching award from Carnegie Mellon, and invited keynote addresses at PODC, PODS, VLDB, and many other conferences. Doug Tygar has written three books; his book Secure Broadcast ...
Many units in the SI system are defined relative to the kilogram so its stability is important. After the International Prototype Kilogram had been found to vary in mass over time, the International Committee for Weights and Measures (known also by its French-language initials CIPM) recommended in 2005 that the kilogram be redefined in terms of a fundamental constant of nature. 3 No final decision is expected before 2011. The New Cryptography Behind Anonymous Digital Cash
digital currency, it is the political and central banking implications that have become the real barriers, not the growing availability of privacy-enhancing encryption protocols. Governments and monetary authorities have aggressively beaten down any sprouting online currency innovations that actually attain market share and critical mass. Witness the federal government's concerted effort against e-gold which, at its peak, equaled one-third of the transactional value of PayPal, but allowed for anonymous account ledger transfers. Obviously, it threatens the State's monopoly of issuance, not to mention their eroding ... market research, surveys and trends
HAARP & the Space Preservation Treaty: Planet Earth As Weapon ...
Beginning with the use of nuclear energy for military purposes, mankind has entered a seemingly endless race to harness the natural forces within the planet, in the atmosphere and in space for waging war. The earth is already gravely affected by many of those secret research and testing programmes leading to unpredictable environmental and epidemiological consequences.       The term ‘exotic weapons systems’ includes weapons designed to damage     space or natural ecosystems (such as the ionosphere and upper atmosphere) or     climate, weather, and tectonic systems with the purpose ... market research, surveys and trends

Proceedings of the 12th Systems Administration Conference (LISA ...
Present day computer systems are fragile and unreliable. Human beings are involved in the care and repair of computer systems at every stage in their operation. This level of human involvement will be impossible to maintain in future. Biological and social systems of comparable and greater complexity have self-healing processes which are crucial to their survival. It will be necessary to mimic such systems if our future computer systems are to prosper in a complex and hostile environment. This paper describes strategies for future research and summarizes concrete measures for the present, building upon existing software systems. industry trends, business articles and survey research

What time is it on an airplane? | Ask MetaFilter
Travelling across a time zone by air is ambiguous. It's hard to tell exactly when it happens. When travelling across time zones by air, when does the time change? Especially across multiple zones. I've noticed that I never see or hear a reference to the time while onboard. For instance, a movie might start at "fifteen minutes after takeoff," but not at 4:45pm. It seems like there are two options. One is that the airplane adopts the original timezone and carries it across timezones until touchdown. On the other hand, it also makes sense to immediately adopt the destination time zone upon takeoff, so as to be able to ...

3: Servlet chaining is when you use output of one servet as the input for another. In struts this is achieved by setting an actions forward to be another action instead of a jsp/web page. 2: That is a pretty generic fragment of a question and I may be misunderstanding it. The implicit objects are used in a jsp to access information about the request, response, session, application, page, etc. Without further information, there really is to much detail to go into. 1: Again, a pretty generic fragment of a question. Dirty data is data that has been modified. My hibernate exposure was relatively little, and many years ago, so I ...
