The second one was caught in 30 feet of water where the long finger comes off the Capitola reef kelp bed.. They said they had no problem getting their sardines first thing in the morning. We had 12 boats out today with 10 fishing. Of those four were skunked (unless you’re counting sardines) and the rest had one or two brown rock cod. Not a reall great day overall, but that’s fishing for you. The ...

But some feel hotels are pricey, which could pose a challenge to those trying to attract more first-timers who stay overnight and spend more money. Those are a few of the findings from two surveys of visitors and prospective visitors conducted last year when the county was in the throes of the recession. The Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitors Council, which commissioned the surveys for $47,000 with local government support, sponsored a Wednesday briefing at the Seacliff Inn attended by 75 people working in tourism. Santa Cruz's River Arts Festival will not continue in 2010 ...
Feb. 17--The River Arts Festival, which attracted artists and art lovers to downtown Santa Cruz the past two years, will not take place in 2010, the event's coordinators announced Tuesday. Citing the lack of a fiscal sponsor for this year's event, co-producer Lynn Guenther said the festival could not continue, though she didn't rule out a return in 2011. Berkeley Parents Network: Going to Santa Cruz
Rent a house! The hotels in Santa Cruz are notoriously crummy and very expensive. We just came back from a birthday weedend for my 15 year old son and two of his friends. My husband and I rented a house through (vacation rentals by owner)and it was fabulous! The house was on the east side (the west side is where the boardwalk is) on a charming little street just a couple of blocks off the beach. We had a two bedroom , three bath house with a giant yard for less than it would have cost us for two hotel rooms. It was spotlessly clean and came equipped with everything we needed (even a gas BBQ). no more hotels Re: ...
