(January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was one of the most popular American singers of the 20th century. A cultural icon, he is widely known by the single name Elvis . He is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King". Born in Tupelo , Mississippi, Presley moved to Memphis , Tennessee, with his family at the age of 13. He began his career there in 1954 when Sun Records owner Sam Phillips , eager to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience, saw in Presley the means to realize his ambition. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black , Presley was one ...

Crazy Cannes - Arts & Culture -
Surrounded by acres of pines and jasmine, overlooking a rocky headland of the Mediterranean, the Hotel du Cap is one of the world’s most luxurious hotels. But until a few years ago it didn’t take credit cards. The Cap, which served as a Vichy headquarters during the Nazi occupation, came to favour the kind of clients who travel with wads of cash. Half an hour up the coast from Cannes, it’s where stars and moguls like to stay when they come to the festival, far from madding crowd. Journalists used to be banned. Once I showed up there for a rendezvous with actor Donald Sutherland and found him waiting anxiously in the parking lot, ... market research, surveys and trends

With a lull in the season, what better to do than revamp the FreeDarko store, repress some in-demand tees, and roll out some new prints? Yes, starting last night, you can visit the brand new FD Imperial Marketplace , whose clean and articulate presentation alone should inspire you to cut into your tax payment. Highlights are open editions prints of some Style Guides, at a lower price than the artist's edition ones (see Lamar Odom , above), and re-ups of THE STEPHEN JACKSON TEE YOU EMAIL ME ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY and the Classic 2.0 . Right now we're taking pre-orders on those, but they should be available in 2-3 weeks. ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
The ChamberPost: Transparency, Science and the EPA Revisited
on our efforts to force transparency from the EPA on their finding that greenhouse gases emissions are a danger to public health and welfare. The article begins: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, trying to ward off potentially sweeping federal emissions regulations, is pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to hold a rare public hearing on the scientific evidence for man-made climate change. To be specific, in order to ensure that regulations which reengineer our economy are needed and would ultimately be effective, we are pushing the EPA to reveal the data they used to justify their endangerment proposal. We need to ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
The Worst Are Filled With Passionate Intensity
is about how TARP, the successful bank bailout plan, has been seized upon by populist fools--mostly of the right, but some on the left as well--as the prime irritant in their anti-big (government and business) frenzy. The trouble is, many of them don't seem to know what TARP is. Here is Bob Bennett, the conservative incumbent Senator from Utah who was tossed by the Tea Partiers, discussing the phenomenon: “People would walk by my booth and say ‘TARP, TARP, TARP, TARP!' But when you tried to talk to them about it, they did not know any of the details,” he said in an interview. “They confused TARP and the stimulus plan. ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
An Extraordinary International Dialogue With Lyndon LaRouche
On April 29, Lyndon LaRouche engaged in an extraordinary dialogue with a group that had gathered in New York to discuss various elements of LaRouche's proposed Four Power Agreement and related issues. The group was comprised of policy makers as well as a distinguished group of academicians from leading American universities that included Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, MIT, Princeton, and Columbia University. Representatives from Russia, China, and India also participated. A number of journalists were also invited to audit the proceedings, although they did not have speaking rights. Although the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Cabrillo NM: Administrative History (Chapter 7)
In its early years, Cabrillo, like many other parks and monuments, operated without benefit of a master plan. Left to their own devices, superintendents and caretakers often devised ways to make their particular area more appealing to tourists thereby gaining recognition and having more bargaining power when budget appropriations were determined. Donald Robinson in his early days as custodian of Cabrillo developed, in his words, "a gimmick" to do just that. [ 1 ] In December 1952, he opened a whale watching station in one of the Army's old fire control facilities overlooking the Pacific. Larry Irving: Guest Lecture Before "International ...
Thank you all for being here today. This is a great honor for me, because Larry Irving is an old friend of about ten years standing now, and someone who I desperately wanted to get for last semester's International Telecommunications class. However every time I called him he was in Rome, or in Paris, or in London, or in Athens, or in India, or in Tokyo. So, when I realized I wasn't going to get him for last semester's class, I said `I'd like to get two things from you.' I said `I'd like to get a commitment that you'd come to this semester's class in International Telecommunications, and ...

Was Joe Stack, the guy who flew a plane into the Austin IRS ...
There was an interesting op/ed piece in my morning paper here in Portland this morning. It noted that you were better off being named "Joe" (rather than "Mahmoud") if you were planning to fly a plane into a building. In Joe's case, he is being labeled a "mis-guided, tax dissident" - which I think is true. Sure, he is a criminal but I don't think that the majority of Americans are afraid that Joe was part of some larger, sinister organization that is out to get them. I don't think Joe intended to "strike terror" into the hearts of the American public. I do think he intended to make a political statement, so in that ...
Does Natural Linking Actually Take Place?
This post is actually an attempt to check the truness of the common a statement in real ground. If you think that this is absurd then please just ignore it. The sayings are "people will link automatically the pages if they found it relevant without asking for back links", " Participation on other sites will definitely get you noticed. Especially if you have something unique/interesting to say. Leave your link there, and people will follow. Eventually, if your site is good, people will link to it on their own" and like many more. Not everyone can build sites like wikipedia, overture and Google. By this post I want to verify that ...
