Since 2005, I have been responsible for sales and membership retention in chambers of commerce, as well as marketing and business development. In my time with the Florida Chamber, I have been involved with the redesign of the Chamber’s website, wrote a market research report that the organization's 5-year strategic planned was based on, and led the 5 year strategic planning process for the membership department. I have also managed a regional business development and advocacy team, given numerous legislative presentations to local chambers of commerce and launched a Small Business Council with the help of an awesome ...

Florida Hub of Innovation at UF generates chatter among technology ...
Call it the Hub-bub - the groundswell of chatter about Alachua County's emerging technology sector promises to get louder with the construction of the Florida Innovation Hub at the University of Florida. The growing number of high-tech businesses - many of which have spun out of university research - also has drawn a number of companies that provide services to tech firms such as venture capitalists, lawyers and other tech inventors. Future plans to develop an entire innovation square around the hub could lure other tech companies that have bypassed Gainesville because of a lack of facilities close to UF, said Jane Muir, ... market research, surveys and trends

Lynette Pettigrew of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department said park visitors can cool off during two open sessions at the park’s municipal swimming pool. “This year they (park visitors) will be able to do special activities at the swimming pool including a bounce house with a Slip and Slide and hot dogs and watermelon while they last,” she said. The hot dogs and watermelon are free with paid admission to the pool. “The pool will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. during general admission. Then the pool opens again for a family swim session from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. After that, guests will have enough time to dry off and see the fire ... market research, surveys and trends

UF to make cool cash off hot sports merchandise |
After all the chomping and cheering, Gator fans go shopping. And that means another cool million or more for the University of Florida athletic department. A school the size of the UF will generate tens of millions of dollars in sales of clothing and merchandise for winning a football championship, according to Heath Price of the Collegiate Licensing Co. The University Athletic Association can expect $1 million to $2 million in royalties from gear licensed by the CLC. For every $10 championship T-shirt, about 60 cents goes back to UF. That's based on 12 percent royalties on wholesale costs to UF for BCS championship gear. A ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Tallahassee, Gainesville Resist Recession | Sunshine State News
While the Sunshine State suffers from double-digit unemployment and is mired in one of the worst real estate downturns in its history, Tallahassee and Gainesville aren't feeling the pain so acutely. As in college towns and state capitals across the country, the two Florida cities have proven more resistant to recessionary times. "We have a more stable employment base, not prone to the boom or bust cycles of construction. Our highs are not as high during boom periods, but our lows are not as low," said Bob Woods, communications manager for the city of Gainesville, home of the University of Florida. ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Government spending out of control
On Tuesday, I attended the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Candidate forum for County Commission candidates. About a hundred business owners showed up to hear the vision of the six candidates for Alachua County. One common theme prevailed: the burden on local business from all levels of government has to subside for the health of the local economy. Increased taxation was shied away from by candidates from both parties. Consistently, all the candidates said we can either be dragged down by the national economic situation, or we find ways to improve upon it. It should be apparent to all that after 18 months, President Obama’s ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
