The Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce is getting involved in County Board politics, and board chairman Scott McDonell thinks it's acting on behalf of the Republican Party. "There's no logic to their choices, other than trying to overturn the County Board, which is Democratic," says McDonell. UPDATE: Edgewater Hotel Redevelopment Plan Approved
After a 13-hour meeting and months of debate, Madison's City Council approved the Edgewater Redevelopment Project at 7:42 a.m.. The mayor made the final vote announcement: "there are 12 eyes, that motion passes (applause)." That last vote was for $16 million in TIF (Tax Incremental Funding) for the Edgewater. Research indicates the cost of living in the Madison area in several categories is significantly higher than the national average. At the same time, average wages here rank below wages in the country as a whole.
