If you're like most residents of this country, you live somewhere that's still reeling from the recession. The unemployment rate remains high; fear, anxiety, and uncertainty are palpable. This sense of foreboding can't be replaced with relief and reassurance without a complete Census count. If the Census is successful, this year's results will enable substantial reinvestment in all communities and help stabilize the economy over the next decade. But at a time of increasing disillusionment with Washington, President Obama and Congress have so far missed an opportunity to persuade Americans that the ...

The mass interchange of "MOD music" or "tracker music" (music stored in module files created with trackers) evolves from early FIDO networks. Nowadays most module files, including ones in zipped form, are supported by most popular media players such as Winamp , VLC , Amarok , Exaile and many others. About Homelessness: Examining the Federal Plan: Goal 8 –Youth ...
On the blog, we’ll examine each goal, what’s known, what isn’t, and what we’re going to do moving forward on that goal. We’ll call the series, “Examining the Federal Plan.” This week we will be looking at objective eight, “Advance health and housing stability for youth aging out of systems such as foster care and juvenile justice”. I myself am still learning a lot about the different kinds of homelessness, but the Alliance is chock full of people who are each a wealth of information and more than willing to help me learn. Since this objective has to do with youth ... market research, surveys and trends
Reality Check
But the news from Alex Wong's MRI on Wednesday was bad: the British Columbia-born ballet dancer suffered a lacerated Achilles tendon as he rehearsed a Bollywood number with AdeChike Torbert this week. So for now he can't dance, not for at least three months. He has surgery scheduled for Tuesday. So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe kept that news from the audience until the very end of the show Thursday, after Billy Bell and Ashley Galvan had danced for their lives, even though there was no chance either was going home given Alex's condition. Alex had automatically been placed in ... market research, surveys and trends

to track someone down who hasn’t returned his/her 2010 Census form. But what if you need a plane to reach that person? Presumably this cost skyrockets when people in extraordinarily remote areas need to be counted. Perhaps statistical sampling should be used to count such people. H/t to the Associated Press for the following: By CLARKE CANFIELD, Associated Press Writer –  Sun Mar 21, 1:24 pm ET PORTLAND, Maine – Census workers are using snowmobiles, airplanes, all-terrain vehicles — even lobster boats — to visit the most far-flung, hidden-away dwellings when counting the nation’s populace. Vincent Jackson and the San Diego Chargers both stand to lose in contract standoff
How can a third alternate to the Pro Bowl be willing to let his one-year, $3.268 million tender slip to $682,000? How can the Chargers box themselves into a corner by reducing his tender, tempting him to miss a good part of the regular season? And now that Jackson has been suspended for three games, how do the Chargers expect to get a Brandon Marshall -like trade value for him? If any situation calls for an arbitrator, Jackson and the Chargers should be locked in a room until they reach a solution. This is a standoff in which both sides lose. As a talent, Jackson is an unappreciated gem. He's evolved behind Antonio Gates and market trends, news research and surveys resources
No other NFL franchise endured as ground-shaking an offseason as the Steelers. Aftershocks remain. They will continue to jolt the club long after Ben Roethlisberger’s four- to six-game NFL suspension ends. Roethlisberger will be out until mid- to late October while serving his suspension for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy. He was not charged after his birthday-night incident in Georgia, but commissioner Roger Goodell took action following the second set of allegations of sexual misconduct against him in a calendar year. A man reached 70 years of age and he faced a disease; he could not urinate. The doctors informed him that he was in need of an operation to cure this disease. He agreed to have the operation done as the problem was giving him much pain for days. When the operation was completed, his doctor gave him the bill which covered all the costs. The old man looked at the bill and started to cry. Upon seeing this the doctor told him that if the cost was too high then they could make some other arrangements. The old man said “I am not crying because of the money but I am crying because Allah let me urinate for 70 years and He never sent me ...
Why can't I count the Fs? | Ask MetaFilter
This is ridiculous. There are 6. Even when I know there are 6, I struggle to recount them. The email suggests that only the super-intelligent will count 6, and the rest of us are idiots. I am of, perhaps, slightly above average intelligence, at best, so this may be true. Being of only slightly above average intelligence, I have lots of questions. Why? Why does our (forgive the simplification, for I don't know how brains work) language brain override our shape recognition brain? (When did language become more important to survival than shape recognition? Are they in fact the same thing?) Wouldn't this also mean that the ...
