"We can think of no better investment by Californians than to continue to provide the very best medical care for seriously ill children who otherwise might not have any hope for a better life or even for survival. In this election, this paper is taking a frugal position in opposing new spending initiatives and a huge rail bond. But we firmly believe that Prop. 3 should be an exception and we urge voters to support it on Nov. 4. "   Contra Costa Times Endorses: Yes on Proposition 3 : "With the economic downturn and large state deficit, voters may be reluctant to support such a measure. San Francisco FYI net: Plan C Meeting/February/March Calendar
Meet the Moderates event was held last night at St Mary's Cathedral on Gough and Geary in their community meeting room. Candidates invited by Plan C were given five minutes each to speak. There was time before and after the speeches to speak to people individually along with generous refreshments. The room was huge with statue of Patron's Saint Joseph, Saint Francis and Saint Patrick in the back of the room. You would have thought that with nearly 100 percent opposition from the left, the right, and the many small parties, that the open-primary would have sunk like a granite submarine. But no, it prevailed, with not all that much money having been spent to promote it. Next to what Meg Whitman spent, for example, the Prop. 14 campaign was backed by chump change. Why, then, was it able to overcome the shoulder-to-shoulder opposition from the political establishments? Probably because the political establishments don’t seem to have quite the influence they once had. Meg Whitman, for example, politely thumbed her nose at the Republican ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
