I recently started looking around the web for Maryland Chamber members doing interesting things online. Electric utility companies weren’t the first place I thought to look. My mistake. Pepco is using Twitter to listen and respond to its customers. For those of you not familiar with Twitter, it is a “micro-blogging” service that allows you to send and receive 140 character messages online or via text message. The messages are public and you choose which accounts you would like to receive messages from, or follow. To learn more about Twitter and how businesses are using it, check out Twitter 101 . I’ve been following Pepco for a ...

In July 2007, Money magazine ranked Olney as 17 (the highest ranked town in Maryland) out of 100 in its "America's Best Places To Live" edition.

The Maryland General Assembly is considering a bill, known as the Maryland False Health Claims Act of 2010 (the “False Health Claims Act”), that would strengthen the State’s ability to fight fraud in the healthcare system, and that would both incentivize whistleblowers to disclose fraud and protect them when they do.  The False Health Claims Act is being opposed by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and by at least some segments of the healthcare industry.  That opposition focuses on the qui tam provisions of the legislation, which not only encourage whistleblowers to report fraud to the government, but also provide financial ... market research, surveys and trends

On the Spectrum -- Book cart could bring library to outlying county populations
Seeing Jim Harris's Fast Franks cart in the Lakeport Sears parking lot, an idea comes to me. For what else would a cart like this be suitable, aside from the really good hot dogs? My answer: a bookmobile. The benefit of a bookmobile seems especially evident for Kelseyville and among Soda Bay Road communities, since the area of greater Kelseyville is the only county supervisorial district not served by a branch library. Cobb Mountain communities and the Spring Valley area could also benefit from a bookmobile. Outlying areas can make use of branch libraries in Clearlake, Lakeport, Upper Lake and Middletown, but for those ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Town of Berlin, Maryland
Travel back into the past with a stroll down Main Street in Berlin, Maryland.  The path you walk is the same as that taken by the Assateague and Pocomoke Indians well before the colonial period.  Later, the path became the Philadelphia Post Road, the main route connecting the centers of commerce to the north and west.  This area was part of the Burley Plantation, a 300-acre land grant dating back to 1677.       At the corner of the Philadelphia Post Road and Sinepuxent Road, now South Main Street and Tripoli Street, colonial travelers stopped at the Burleigh ... technology research, surveys study and trend statistics

Tax rates will increase for all employers, but the specific tax rate an employer pays is determined by the employer’s individual experience, factoring in whether the employer had laid off any employees in the past year. Minimum rated employers, those who have not laid off will see their rates increase from $51 per employee to $187 per employee. The rate increase for employers that have laid off employees in recent years will be higher, up to the maximum rate, which will increase from $765 per employee to $1,147.50 per employee State law ...
