Prayers in South Texas were answered on June 30, when Hurricane Alex, shown here a day  earlier as an approaching tropical storm, was making a predicted path to the Valley. But the powerful eye of the soon-to-be Category 2 hurricane moved westward instead, striking northeastern Mexico with heavy rain and powerful winds of more than 100 miles per hour. Although deep South Texas was spared a dreaded repeat of Hurricane Dolly in 2008 – where damages exceeded $1 billion – the northern section of Hurricane Alex still managed to dump up to a foot of rain in key areas of the Valley, causing flooding problems, shutting down businesses, ... market research, surveys and trends

Despite the recent erratic and colder weather, spring is approaching and we are getting ready for warmer temperatures and sunny skies. The team at the McAllen Economic Development Corporation is preparing for a busy spring as well, filled with new initiatives, travel, company visits and events. We will be launching several new campaigns and preparing for our annual Spring Maquila Picnic. The U.S. Census Bureau also will conduct its decennial census count this April. This represents an extremely important tool for the Rio Grande Valley as many of us know we currently are undercounted and our numbers misrepresent the community. ... market research, surveys and trends

The family of former Rep. Cullen Looney, D-Edinburg, and his wife, Carol Lynn, gathered on Thursday, September 18, for the dedication of the Will Looney Legacy Park, which is an addition to the Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg.  The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a bronze sculpture entitled, “Texas Legacy.”   The sculpture depicts with great detail a young man mounted on horseback respectfully clasping the hand of an elderly woman standing next to the horse and rider. I do not recommend specific hotels, there are quidebooks for that. I am not a Baja expert. That is a different part of the country and there are plenty of people who know more about it than I do. Naturally, I have a web site (www.mexicomike.com) and make a living with personal consultations, but am here to offer good advice for general topics for free.
