— don’t have to do with the antenna after all, and that it will release a software fix in a few weeks. In a letter to users today, the company cites an incorrect formula for calculating signal strength, saying the formula sometimes caused the phone to show more reception bars than it should have. So, it said, when users saw their reception drop several bars, that was inaccurate because the phone shouldn’t have displayed that many bars to begin with. All clear? In the meantime, one wonders whether Apple has hired those antenna engineers it was seeking , and whether they’ll stick around just in case. Other odds ... market research, surveys and trends

The video Web site is finalizing its plans to launch its subscription service, and people familiar with the company say a beta test of "Hulu Plus" could launch as early as next week. If you're in a select group, that is. Ask Maggie: On dumping cable for online video
If you're like me, you cringe every month when you pay your cable bill. And you dream of the day you can cut your cable cord and stop paying that monthly bill. It's not that I don't like to watch TV. I do. But I can't stand that I pay $140 a month to watch a handful of shows on five or six channels. The DVR has completely changed my viewing habits, so that I only watch the shows I want to see when I want to see them. Meanwhile, there is a growing amount of video content online. Some of it's free, from places such as Hulu. And some of it costs money. For example, Netflix has a monthly subscription fee, ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

how can I get a xbox 360 set up on the cheap | Ask MetaFilter
You can't use a USB hard drive for game saves etc but you can use a USB hard drive to play videos and other media types on the 360. Most Hard drives and enclosures will work for this. I'm assuming megosteve is right, I have no idea actually but 20gb xbox hd's go on ebay for like 20-25$, not really that expensive. Gamestop sells arcades for right around 150 right now, ebay a harddrive and boom, cheap xbox. If you're worried about not enough HD space 20gb is plenty for gamesaves. Some people want bigger hd's so they can save movies, we have ours setup through our network and stream movies from our NAS. ...
Slashdot Ask Slashdot Story | What To Do With a Free Xbox 360 Pro?
However, I am not a gamer, and after looking at the current MS offerings, I am not tempted to become one. But I am in the market for a Media Center PC that I can use for streaming TV shows off the 'net as well as general web browsing and displaying video through the HDMI port. With that in mind, I again looked at MS and saw they seemed to have positioned the Xbox as an adjunct to a separate Windows Media Center PC and not as a stand alone unit (which is not what I want). So, once again, I did some more research into the Xbox homebrew scene and discovered things like Xbox Linux . But after reading that site, it is ...
