Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco on Nov. 4 announced that five North Carolina communities will receive $1.23 million in Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Tax Credit Housing Development funds to provide housing and related needs for low- and moderate-income residents. The CDBG grant awards will assist in constructing 245 affordable housing units and supporting infrastructure for the projects, including safe water and sewer lines, road improvements and sidewalks. Burlington received a $300,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce and Main Street Solutions to assist the revitalization of downtown Burlington. The Burlington Downtown Corporation will channel this money into the construction of The Company Shops Market Grocery Cooperative, a grocery store located on East Front Street. Governor Bev Perdue today announced that AMARK Corp., an industrial contractor, will expand with a new fabrication facility in Pasquotank County. Google Inc. has opted not to take a $4.7 million state grant to build a data center in the town of Lenoir, N.C. � a sign the company may be slowing down its expansion in the state. Online retailer has filed a lawsuit in a federal court to block the North Carolina state government's demand it disclose all transaction details, including names and addresses, involving state residents, court documents show.
