The Northwest Trading Post, which has provided an outlet for artisans from Wilkes and other area counties to sell their work to tourists on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is not opening today as it usually would. Parkway spokeswoman Lisa Davis says the outlet just isn't profitable. But the Parkway would like to keep the trading post on the Ashe/Wilkes county line near Glendale Springs open as it has been for more than 50 years.
