modern Alexandria has been shaped by its proximity to the nation's capital. It is largely populated by professionals working in the federal civil service, the U.S. military, or for one of the many private companies which contract to provide services to the federal government. The latter are known locally as beltway bandits , after the Capital Beltway , an interstate highway that circles Washington, D.C. One of Alexandria's largest employers is the U.S. Department of Defense . Others include the Institute for Defense Analyses and the Center for Naval Analyses . In 2005, the United States Patent and Trademark Office ...
(# 1) Feds 'Disappear' Edgar Steele – Mystery Deepens ~ By John ...
Controversial Patriot writer and lawyer Edgar J. Steele, already jailed on suspicious charges that he tried to kill his wife with a pipe bomb, has been mysteriously removed from from a Spokane, Washington detention facility and taken to an undisclosed location, according to close friends of the Steele family. In a letter to his friend Ingri Cassell, Steele wrote that the charges of attempted murder are preposterous and blamed his hired handyman – Larry Fairfax, a known FBI informant – for trying to cover up his own theft of silver bullion from Steele’s property by trying to kill both Steele and his wife. market research, surveys and trends
Chamber Of Commerce Pushes Hard For Free Trade Agreements ...
Last week, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the largest business lobby group in the country, urged the Obama administration to advance three free trade agreements that have been pending since the president took office earlier this year, Reuters reports. The organization said that trade agreements with Panama, South Korea and Colombia, which were all negotiated by former President George W. Bush’s administration, have been left on the table for the past year. John Murphy, the chamber’s vice president of international affairs, said that failing to move forward on these agreements would put approximately 500,000 jobs at ... market research, surveys and trends

N.J.'s Christie Pushes Tax Cap Amid Budget Victory - BusinessWeek
June 29 (Bloomberg) -- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed a $29.4 billion budget for fiscal 2011 that closed a record deficit without raising taxes, and summoned lawmakers for a special session to cap growth in the U.S.’s highest property taxes. The spending plan overcame a gap of almost $11 billion and prevented a government shutdown after eight Democrats in the Assembly and four in the Senate joined Republicans to pass the measure for the year beginning July 1. Christie, 47, New Jersey’s first Republican elected governor since 1997, came to office in January on a pledge to rein in spending after property ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
American Investor, Get Long the Canadian Dollar
A day like today, when fear about the durability of the economic recovery rules, is an opportunity for US-based investors to establish exposure to the Great White North and the most vigorous developed economy on the planet. The quick-and-dirty exchange-traded fund (ETF) CurrencyShares Canadian Dollar Trust (NYSE: FXC) shed nearly 2 percent as investors fled to the perceived safety of US Treasuries; the US dollar and the Japanese yen each rose against most currencies because they’re still considered relatively safe. The S&P/Toronto Stock Exchange Income Trust Index was off by 2.5 percent, still more evidence of rising ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

DHS: Secretary Ridge's Remarks on the Council for Excellence in ...
Good morning.  Over the past nine months the Department of Homeland Security has been proud to participate in the Council for Excellence in Government initiative to engage the American people about the role we all share when it comes to the security of our communities and our country.   Certainly the tragic attacks of September 11th completely re-defined the homeland security mission.  In an instant, we came face to face with an enemy bent on the destruction of our way of life, capable of carrying out catastrophic attacks to achieve sadistic goals, and unscrupulous in their regard for the innocent. Those attacks required a swift ... technology research, surveys study and trend statistics
Tripler Ridge 2
Several months ago, I had ventured up the ridge trail above Tripler Hospital but turned back after a part-way journey because I was hiking alone. The trail, approximately six rugged miles to the top, is challenging and one I'd be ill-advised to traverse all the way on my own. This morning (6/2/96), I had the good fortune to join members of the Sierra Club for a superb trek up Tripler Ridge to the Koolau Summit. Actually, I had found out about the hike at the 11th hour. I didn't possess the most up-to-date SC newsletter so I was unaware of the schedule for May and June hikes. A fellow I had exchanged email with, ...

Roofing: Building "Shed" Roof on New Sunroom, ceiling joists ...
Hello, I recently began building an enclosed porch/sunroom off of the side of my house.  There was originally a screened in porch on a concrete slab there but I tore it down as it was in bad shape and not big enough for the jacuzzi I want to put inside.  I extended the concrete slab and put in a proper footer 36" deep around the perimeter.  The outside dimensions of the new room are 18'-8" Long by 9'-8" Deep.  It has a "shed" roof style, 5/8 OSB, asphalt shingles.  The new room top plate is standard 8' high, and top of the ridge where the roof connects to the house ...

ShopRite, Safeway and Kroger along with other grocery chains are serving mobile coupons via Verizon Communications Inc.’s new free digital coupon service for its wireless and FiOS TV customers. The Spend Smart coupons are powered by Cellfire in an effort to eliminate the hassle of clipping and collecting paper coupons. Consumers can access the coupons via their wireless devices, televisions and computers. “Verizon is giving old-school coupons a new-age twist with access on all three screens,” said Deidre Mulcahy Hart, a spokeswoman at Verizon, Basking Ridge, NJ. “Whether you’re on your phone, PC or TV, coupon clipping just got ...
