Lou asked me to share how I do my Dynafit leashes, so here goes. I like my leash systems because they are durable metal, simple to use with gloves, easy to reach, and unlikely to fail because of the simplicity and few parts. Yet perfection has not been achieved, so feedback and crit are appreciated. Probably biggest shortcoming is having the loop on the side where it could catch on something, though I’ve not had enough of that problem to get me to change how it’s rigged. Dynafit leash system I've used for quite a while. Loop the cable loop so that it is to the outside, so it doesn’t tend to catch as much. ...

Best & Worst of the Japanese Decade (Recovering From The Hangover)
In Japan, the land where sake flows like a never-ending river and lubricates both awkward social interaction between men and women as well as cements business transactions amongst a bevy of black-suits, it’s easy to think of the past, present and the future in terms of drinking. There is the sobering post-war period of infrastructure and economic rebuilding called Japan’s Longest Day. Then came the exuberant 80s, which were the time of overflowing Cristal pyramids and buying and selling the world’s treasures like so much Bolivian blow in the bathroom, known as the Drunken Days. The current sobering 15+ year ... market research, surveys and trends

Morning Paddle - Vermont Life Magazine - Winter 2008 - 2009
It's a day in late February 2008. Mother Nature has offered up bluebird skies, and the trails at Killington are primer white against an azure sky. The view is panoramic with Mount Washington, one state away, popping up on the horizon like the top layer of a wedding cake. At Bear Mountain, one of Killington's six peaks, the sun has softened the snow just enough for a rigorous run through the moguls on Devil's Fiddle, a signature bump run at the resort. Over on Killington Peak, almost 1,000 feet higher in elevation than Bear, the trails that the mountain's devotees like to brag about Ovation, Cascade and ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Save money at Vail Ski Resort | Ask MetaFilter
I know some resorts offer discount lift passes. Buy tickets at a local bank, grocery store, etc. Or, bring a soda can... any of these apply to Vail? Any ideas? You can try grocery stores, especially King Supers. If not there, try the rental shops away from the slopes, i.e. along I70 or in Denver for a few bucks in savings. And another thought: If you're hitting the slopes with someone who has a season pass, they can often buy a one day ticket at a discount. look on craigslist for nearby cities. You can nearly always get screaming deals on passes that way and I haven't been ripped off yet. If you're an REI member ...
