One For The Table: The Custom House Tavern
I love the fact that my husband is from a different part of the country than I am. Before I met and married him, my experience of America was limited to either coast. Now, every year, I get to visit Chicago, my second favorite city, to visit my in-laws. It's behind Boston (where I went to college) and in front of Los Angeles (where I currently live). Since I've been a Left-Coaster for almost two decades I wouldn't/couldn't live in either Chi-town or Beantown because the City of Angels has turned my blood into water and I need to see the sun every day or I burst into tears. I sure do love to visit though. ... market research, surveys and trends

Custom, spec or tract: Which house fits you?
Buying a new house means making lots of choices. But long before you choose between Roman and roller shades, you make the biggest decision: Should you buy a custom, spec or tract house? The choice depends on your schedule, budget and personality. Custom Buying a custom house is like hiring a tailor to create a one-of-a-kind outfit. You pick out the fabric, style and notions, then return for fittings. Thanks to the many choices you make along the way, the house fits your family like a glove. Typically, you buy a lot, then hire an architect to design the house and a builder to build it. But there's nothing wrong with doing ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Hawthorne's The Custom House
The introduction's chatty tone differs markedly from the more magisterial voice of the novel's narrator; its focus on political patronage seems trivial when compared to the exploration of sin and penitence found in the novel; and its fabricated account of Hawthorne's "discovery" of the actual letter embroidered by Hester Prynne, the ostensible reason for writing the introduction, renders the whole exercise slightly ludicrous. But despite these limitations, "The Custom House" adds an intriguing perspective to The Scarlet Letter , especially for those interested in law, ...

Why the Custom-House? | Ask MetaFilter
The somewhat biographical introductory sketch of course reflects Hawthorne's own thoughts and experiences, but was there a greater reason why he felt that it was necessary to his novel? Facts about Hawthorne's life, historical evidence, literary analysis, and pure speculation are all entirely welcome. Not to be a jerk, but this really sounds like "Do My Homework Filter" ... you wanna explain how this is appropriate for askme? Yeah, I realized that as I looked back at it. Sorry, that's not what it is meant to be at all. Scratch everything about analysis and speculation. I just wanna know if there was some ...
