The EU-Turkey-Cyprus Triangle: “The Lisbon Treaty Shines a Ray of ...
With Turkish Cypriot leadership elections on Sunday, the future of the Cypriot negotiations are under question. It is clear from the candidates’ platforms that a victory for incumbent Mehmet Ali Talat will make it easier and quicker to reach a deal on a true federal state. But alongside this, far from the island, Brussels has won a chance to push for a breakthrough on Cyprus as an unexpected consequence of the European Union’s new Lisbon Treaty. If the EU seizes this opportunity to keep its previously broken promise of direct Turkish Cypriot trade with EU states, and make amends with Turkish Cypriots, it could ... market research, surveys and trends
cyprus problem discussion :: greek and turkish business chambers
In divided Cyprus, the Greek and Turkish business communities may face diverse economic challenges, but both see the need for an early negotiated settlement. EurActiv has interviewed the presidents of the Greek and the Turkish Chambers of Commerce. Background: The island of Cyprus has been divided into the Greek Cypriot south and the Turkish Cypriot north since 1974. The latest UN-sponsored effort for reunification failed in April 2004, when the Greek Cypriot community rejected the so-called Annan Plan in a referendum. The same plan was approved by the Turkish community in the north. In May 2004, the (Greek) Republic of Cyprus ... market research, surveys and trends

Turkey Plans to Open Airport, Seaport to Cyprus to Save EU Bid (PSEKA)
Dec. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Turkey proposed opening one seaport and one airport to traffic from Cyprus in a bid to prevent the breakdown of its European Union membership talks. Turkey will open the ports provided that Ercan airport and the seaport of Famagusta, both in Turkish-controlled northern Cyprus, are also opened to international traffic, a Turkish government official said in Ankara on condition of anonymity. Turkey is willing to keep the ports open for a year and within that period would expect a comprehensive resolution of the Cyprus dispute, he said. Turkey's trade embargo on Cyprus, an EU member since 2004, has led to ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

European Commission proposal for direct trade with Turkish ...
[snip] Christos, could you please explain the following European Commission proposal to me, drawn up on the instruction of the European Council (I've sent this before, but you failed to address it then as well). I don't have the particular European Council document in front of me, but as the proposal below states: 'On 24 April, the "Comprehensive Settlement of the Cyprus Problem" as proposed by the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan did not pass the simultaneous referenda in Cyprus, despite approval by the Turkish Cypriot electorate, given that it was rejected by the Greek Cypriot electorate. Following the ...
