Tourism authority's shift in allocations upsets Arts Council executive
Hospitality and tourism groups that generate the most overnight hotel stays -- heads in beds -- get the larger pieces of the occupancy tax generated. That's the way that the county's tourism authority is basing its allocation of grant money. By a 7-1 vote Tuesday, it approved putting the bulk of its $225,000 in business-development money for 2010-11 toward conventions, meetings and sporting events. The fund primarily is used to help offset infrastructure and logistical costs of groups wanting to hold events locally. Beltway delay
Aprioritization process for urban-loop projects that state officials are proposing could well put Forsyth County's long-awaited Northern Beltway near, or at, the bottom of the list of projects competing for funds. Area residents should urge the N.C. Department of Transportation to adjust the process so that it allows projects like the Northern Beltway to be given fair consideration. What does Twitter have to offer that a website/company can't get ...
