Black Crime Silence Diminshes Arguments Against White Law ...
While some people are overly invested in the trial of former BART transit cop Johannes Mehserle who was convicted Thursday of involuntary manslaughter for shooting Oscar Grant, life will go on. It seems much of the outrage stems from those who have focused primarily on the race of the cop in question, making Oscar Grant the poster child for racism conspiracy theories. What most do not realize is there is little “new” about cases such as these. While historically there has been an established pattern of aggression where innocent men were singled out that is no longer the case for the black male collective. Today, the police ... market research, surveys and trends
Sotomayor Still Ever the New Yorker . . . and a Soon-To-Be ...
In this June 4, 2010 file photo, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Sonia Sotomayor is shown at Hostos Community College’s 39th Commencement Ceremony in New York. (AP Photo/Craig Ruttle, file) It somehow seems easy to forget, but one year ago, all eyes were not on Elena Kagan. They were on Sonia Sotomayor, who, at this time last year, was about to begin start giving her testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ah, what a difference a year makes. The Washington Post on Monday takes a look at the Year That Was for Justice Sotomayor, whose confirmation battle seems like a distant distant ... market research, surveys and trends

Economy | Change.gov: The Obama-Biden Transition Team
Our country faces its most serious economic crisis since the great depression. Working families, who saw their incomes decline by $2,000 in the economic "expansion" from 2000 to 2007, now face even deeper income losses. Retirement savings accounts have lost $2 trillion. Markets have fallen 40% in less than a year. Millions of homeowners who played by the rules can't meet their mortgage payments and face foreclosure as the value of their homes have plummeted. With credit markets nearly frozen, businesses large and small cannot access the credit they need to meet payroll and create jobs. SACRAMENTO — Imagine: At a time when California is lurching from crisis to crisis, a legislator has an idea to make life better. He puts together a bill, gathers support and shepherds it into law. If only Sacramento worked like that. Instead, it often works like this: A lobbyist has an idea to make life better — but only for his client. The lobbyist writes the bill, shops for a willing lawmaker to introduce it and lines up the support. The legislator? He has to do little more than show up and vote. This is the path of the "sponsored bill," a method of lawmaking little noticed outside California's ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
When the Police Stop Absolutely Everybody
those are interesting and unsurprising statistics. Of course this kind of horseshit goes on in every jurisdiction in the country. There is nothing unique about Arizona sadly. I understand the objection to these widespread stops by police. I share the objection. But, I fail to see how they have anything to do with the Arizona immigration law. The stops are no more or less objectionable regardless of whether they are done to check immigration status or to "get guns off the streets". Young black men get stopped so often that a few years ago, Gus Cyrus, coach of the football team at nearby Thomas Jefferson High School, ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Senator Krueger & Assembly Member Gottfried Team-Up to Pass ...
(New York, NY) Tenants and tourists in New York City would be protected by a new law that will make it clear that operating a residential apartment as a transient hotel is illegal in New York City. The bill (S.6873/A.10008), sponsored by State Senator Liz Krueger and Assembly Member Richard N. Gottfried, will put an end to the rampant spread of illegal hotels by clarifying ambiguities in State and City laws which made it impossible for government agencies to effectively crack down on offenders and protect residents. The legislation passed the Senate late last week, and was approved by the Assembly on Thursday. It now goes to ... technology research, surveys study and trend statistics
