The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a cleaner, cheaper, and smarter way for the Metal Finishing Industry to recycle F006 waste through metals recovery. While protecting human health and the environment, this proposal will minimize economic barriers to recycling waste water treatment sludge. Background EPA’s Common Sense Initiative (CSI) provides a consensus-based, decision-making process for stakeholders from federal and state governments, public interest groups, and regulated industry. As part of this Initiative, this proposal provides a new opportunity for the Metal Finishing Industry to practice better ...
disasters have occurred. In general, any Emergency management is the continuous process by which all individuals, groups, and communities manage hazards in an effort to avoid or ameliorate the impact of disasters resulting from the hazards. Actions taken depend in part on perceptions of risk of those exposed. 2 Effective emergency management relies on thorough integration of emergency plans at all levels of government and non-government involvement. Activities at each level (individual, group, community) affect the other levels. It is common to place the responsibility for governmental emergency management with the institutions for

EPA and the “National Contingency Plan” « Climate Audit
Did any of you know that the US supposedly has a National Contingency Plan for dealing with very large oil spills? And that EPA has legal responsibility for maintaining readiness for such an eventuality? Who knew? I’ve watched hours of coverage and this hasn’t been mentioned anywhere. The National Oil and Hazardous Substances Contingency Plan Act was signed into law in 1994 (superceding previous legislation that went back to the 1969 Torrey Canyon oil spill.) Laws and regulations are collated here . The EPA has an online book describing the National Continency Plan. See for example ... market research, surveys and trends
Alaskan Advocate: Evaluation of Exploration in the Arctic OCS
The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has affected and will continue to affect the environment and the lives of many in the southern coastal states for years to come. For Alaskans the spill brought back memories of Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989 and the impact it had on their lives. Today the BP oil spill has resulted in a more direct impact on Alaska and the future of oil and gas exploration in the State. Today President Obama announced the suspension of Shell’s offshore arctic exploration operation plans. There is substantial uncertainty regarding when and if the Administration will allow exploration in the Arctic OCS ... market research, surveys and trends

Alaskans watch Gulf spill with interest, comparisons
Oil and gas well blowouts have happened in Alaska, both onshore and offshore, although nothing like what's being experienced in the Gulf. Can we learn anything? Are we different? Are we better protected and prepared? Yes to all three of those, state officials and an industry watchdog group say. That doesn't mean Alaska's coastal communities and fisheries are any less vulnerable than the Gulf's. It does mean, however, that we learned some things from our own spill disaster, the Exxon Valdez grounding in Prince William Sound in 1989. That's the assessment of Larry Dietrick, director of the state's ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
The EPA's History of William Reilly
From the EPA’s institutional perspective, he sounds like a nice guy: a Republican conservationist of the sort that went the way of the NE Republican. Here’s a fairly interesting policy piece from him. But I wanted to highlight just a few parts of EPA’s institutional history of Reilly for what they say about Obama and this commission. First, there’s the description of Reilly as a broker of compromise. Reilly’s proclivity for drawing people together will not just be directed outward, toward the regulated community: it can also be expected to bring new cohesion to the internal operations of EPA. With all of the unregistered travel between these countries, it's a very real possibility. Add to that the fact that the necessary antivirals are practically unaivalable (yet) here, and that this city , with an impoverished population of over five million, is almost as densely inhabited as Mexico City. An outbreak here could easily lead to death counts in the hundreds. The matter at hand is the following: I need to find some information on workplace transmission prevention. I've been able to find plenty of information on personal hygiene and prevention; the thing is, I've been tasked with preparing a plan for ...

India has been traditionally vulnerable to natural disasters on account of its unique geo-climatic conditions. Floods, droughts, cyclones, earthquakes and landslides have been recurrent phenomena. At times, the same area is subjected to floods and drought situation in successive seasons or years. While not all natural calamities can be predicted and prevented, a state of preparedness and ability to respond quickly to a natural calamity can considerably mitigate loss of life and property and the human suffering and restore normalcy at the earliest. It is, therefore, of paramount importance that a plan of action for dealing with ...
