The primary risk is that loans will default or will have some late payments. The risk with a default is that the loan is sold off for pennies on the dollar, so most of the money invested is lost. The risk with late loans is that if payments are eventually made that bring the loan current a credit agency will take part of those payments as a collections fee. Of course, if payments are not made to bring the loan current, it will eventually end up in default. There are other more remote risks such as the risk that will go out of business. There is another risk, however, that is often overlooked: the risk of loan ...

An adjustable rate mortgage is one in which the rate changes based on the market interest rates. The rate will adjust on a specific schedule, say once a year, after an initial fixed period. Fixed periods range from six months to five years. Some may have even longer fixed periods. The risk in an ARM comes from having a payment that can change significantly. When you have a fixed rate mortgage, you know that your payment will be the same now, ten years and twenty years later. The payment doesn’t change because the interest rate is fixed. When you choose an adjustable rate mortgage, you accept the risk of a rising payment in ... market research, surveys and trends

Global Development Finance 1997: Latin America and Caribbean
Capital flows to Latin America and the Caribbean continued to recover in 1996. Although the early repayment of $7.5 billion in debt by Mexico in 1996 resulted in only a small rise in net aggregate flows to $69.2 billion, flows continued the strong increase of 1995. Private capital flows rose 37 percent in 1996 to $74 billion. Despite large payments on official debt, strong bond issuing activity meant that net transfers to the region remained at the 1995 level of $26 billion, or 1.6 percent of regional GNP. Growth of debt stock slows. The region's external debt increased about 3 percent in 1996 to reach $656 billion, a ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Ameriquest Mortgage Lawsuit | Ameriquest Reaches $1.2 Million ...
The parties have reached a tentative settlement, apparently valued at $1.2 million, in an action filed against Ameriquest Mortgage Company on behalf of borrowers who allege that the company miscalculated the amounts of the borrowers' prepayment penalties for paying off mortgages that were taken out between September 1998 and October 2001 on California property. The action alleged that the company's actions violated California's Unfair Business Practices Act. The claims deadline has been extended from December 9, 2003, to July 30, 2004. Claims must be submitted by the new date to be considered valid. The class is ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
No End in Sight for Foreclosures in Communities of Color
The recession still has more damage left to do. From 2007 to 2009, about 2.5 million foreclosures were completed throughout the country, and now, millions more homes are facing the same fate. About 1 in 6 Latino homeowners, and 1 in 10 Black homeowners have either lost their homes already or are at "imminent risk," compared to 7 percent of White owners, according to the Center for Responsible Lending. The organization's new analysis of foreclosure statistics from 2007 to 2009 confirms previous research , but the timing of the report is a bleak reminder that the economic crisis has not yet bottomed out in ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Consumers Win With New Financial Reform Bill
The first sign that maybe this much-touted financial overhaul might not be all it was cracked up to be was the reaction from Wall Street. It was just before sunrise on Friday morning that negotiators for the House and Senate gave birth to a new reform package they dubbed the Dodd-Frank bill. Investors greeted the news by driving up the stocks of the biggest brand-name banks. But consumers should still celebrate the bill, even though banks aren't too shaken by it. At the risk of sounding like Sen. Chris Dodd's (D-CT) press secretary, I'd say this final bill is a pretty remarkable piece of legislation. And I'm ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Real Estate Home Mortgages: Prepayment Penalty Clause, sanity ...
Hello, Brian, Bill here.  I am having a MAJOR prepayment penalty dispute, and need a sanity check. Asking you because you replied to a "Marilyn" who had similar (but clearly different) wording in her prepayment penalty clause.  I am still within the 3 year prepayment penalty timeframe, but have made absolutely NO prepayments so far.  So, the way I understand my prepayment penalty clause is that a total payoff (e.g. refinance or sale) will result in a zero-amount penalty (i.e. no penalty) given a history of otherwise no prepayments.  The lender disagrees and thinks I am a complete idiot. ...
Question about how mortgage prepayment affects amortization ...
So I'm buying my first house, its an FHA loan, and the biggest thing on my mind is figuring out how to pay as little interest as possible over the years. I'm buying a less expensive house that I could afford, so that I can have money left over to prepay on the principal as often as possible, and get the house paid off much quicker than 30 years. ( I know alot of people probably think, its my first house, I'm going to move soon, upgrade, etc, but I doubt it. I rarely move, I've been in the same 5 mile radius my whole life, I plan to be in this house for a long time) Right now I've ...
