Carole Argo, former chief financial officer of SafeNet Inc., faces an eight- to 10- year prison sentence after pleading guilty to securities fraud. She was CFO of SafeNet in 2004, when it purchased Rainbow Technologies of Irvine for $457 million and laid off many of that computer security firm’s employees. On Friday, she pleaded guilty to backdating employee stock options, including options for herself and SafeNet’s former chief executive, which prosecutors said occurred from 2000 to 2006. Here is the Associated Press story about the guilty plea: NEW YORK (AP) — The former chief financial officer of SafeNet ...

Legal Pad: Brocade's Weaver: Worst Witness Ever?
We’re going to have to be blunt here: June Weaver, the former Brocade Communications HR administrator, is an incredibly bad witness. Testifying last week and again Monday morning in the criminal fraud trial of former Brocade CEO Gregory Reyes for backdating employee stock options, Weaver exhibited several behaviors that — as annoying as they were to observers — must have been much more irritating to attorneys on both sides of the case. For one thing, Weaver barely remembers anything at all about her time working for Brocade (though she does communicate that ignorance with a remarkable self-assurance). Weaver doesn’t remember how ... market research, surveys and trends

Apple's Steve Jobs: A man with plenty of options - The Boston Globe
Steve Jobs is in a class by himself when it comes to the technology product launch as consumer spectacle. Jobs practically invented the concept years ago, and proved this week that he remains peerless in his ability to knock the socks off a normally jaded crowd. Apple Inc.'s glitzy iPhone isn't for sale yet, and the company doesn't even own the rights to the name. But the new phone is an unqualified hit. The iPhone launch went so well this week that it was easy to lose sight of the fact that Apple and Jobs have a big problem on their hands. Apple's acknowledged past practice of backdating employee stock ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Armstrong attorney explains apparent contradiction on Tailwind ownership
Lance Armstrong’s attorney Tim Herman released a statement Thursday to try to explain the apparent contradiction between Armstrong’s remarks Wednesday and a deposition he gave in 2005. As reported on VeloNews.com Wednesday , Armstrong told reporters at the Tour de France that he was never a part owner of Tailwind Sports Corp., the company that owned the U.S. Postal Service team. “I didn’t own the company. I didn’t have a position. I didn’t have an equity stake. I didn’t have a seat on the board. I was a rider on the team. I can’t be any clearer than that,” Armstrong said. Piedritas, Coahuila
Yesterday I took a quick trip to Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico to see my friend Oscar Cabello. I’ve invested a meager amount into his effort at restoring a farming and ranching community with tremendous potential but in a horribly run down and sad state. The task is beyond either of our means now that we no longer smuggle dope for money, but it’s a task we both feel compelled to tackle. With the constant news of border violence, I have to overcome a touch of fear each time I make this trip, but surprisingly, the Mexican people I have encountered seem almost to fall over themselves treating me well when I arrive. Even Mexican ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Why is Michael Ross sueing Atmel for defamation?
Michael Ross was fired and blamed for two corporate scandals at Atmel Corp. -- but now the former general counsel is fighting back. Ross has filed a lawsuit, claiming the San Jose, Calif., semiconductor company ruined his reputation when it pointed the finger at him and others for the company's stock option backdating problems, which led to a $125 million financial restatement. Having been fired along with other Atmel executives in 2006 after an investigation into the misuse of travel funds, Ross became an easy scapegoat when the company faced a mounting backdating mess a year later, his lawyers say. Canada AdSense Payment Currency Conversion Issues
I just received my PiP. The Canadian exchange rate that Adsense set was 1.185 which is quite low. The real Canadian exchange rate in the last few days (even now) is at around 1.25. Big difference if you earn so much from Adsense ads. EX. if you earn $4000 in adsense, your conversion will be $4720 at 1.185 rate. But if you calculate with 1.25 rate, the conversion is $5000. So you lose almost $280. That's huge! Im surprised, AS used to have a good competitive dollar conversion rate. Now their rate is even worse than the bank! hey guy's. Same problem here in Australia. They converted it over at 67cents when the Aussie ...
