Campaign rhetoric heats up in Newport council race | - Venezia ...
Whenever a politician writes an editorial or sends email blasts, no need to pull out your old decoder ring to figure out the obvious surface message for the public. The subtle underlying message to other politicos may not be so obvious. Sometimes that message: "don't mess with my territory." Newport Beach Mayor Keith Curry penned a well-written mid-year update a few weeks ago, writing, "At the beginning of the year, I promised that Newport would end the year with a leaner, more efficient, more effective and better-managed city government. Immigration poll sparks backlash – Central Florida Political Pulse ...
A leading immigration advocate – as well as some readers of this blog — object to the wording of a Florida poll released this week that indicates voter opposition to immigration reform. Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice, called it a “horribly worded poll,” which he says falsely implies that reform would give unauthorized immigrants a path to citizenship without screening off criminals. The Mason-Dixon poll puts the question this way: “Would you support or oppose immigration reform legislation that allowed all of those who are living here without legal status to be given the opportunity to stay and apply ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Finland targeted for EU/IMF austerity demands
Last month, Finland was issued with a warning by the European Union commission over the size of its budget deficit, which is expected to rise above 4 percent of GDP this year.
