A new musculoskeletal study finds that running with running shoes exerts significantly more stress on key joints than running barefoot, potentially increasing a runner's risk of developing disabilities such as osteoarthritis in the knees. The key culprit is contemporary running-shoe design, which interferes with the body's natural ability to absorb forces through the foot, says lead author Casey Kerrigan, who published the study in the journal PM&R: The ...

Flipboard: Will Social Magazine iPad App Become the Netflix of ...
an enthusiastically received iPad app that bills itself as the world's first "social magazine." Perhaps more interestingly, Flipboard could herald the arrival of a Netflix model for news content, and not a moment to soon. In a nutshell, Flipboard takes feeds from Facebook and Twitter accounts and pulls the content from their links into an easy-to-read and eye-poppingly attractive magazine format. The tiled presentation comes complete with full images and big chunks of text from the links embedded in the streams. There's only one problem. Brad Setser: Follow the Money » Blog Archive » January's TIC data …
was a disaster. $150 billion in (net) capital outflows (-148.9 billion to be precise) cannot sustain even a $40 billion trade deficit. I also though have learned that the TIC data doesn’t necessarily match the trade deficit on a monthly basis — and on occasion it moves in ways that seem inconsistent with the market. If the big outflow had come in December (a month when the dollar slid) rather than January, the flow data and the market move would fit together. But a big outflow in January is hard to square with the dollar’s January rally. Long-term inflows in January were weak — with net sales of ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

McGrady, a seven-time All-Star, is trying to find a home after playing just 30 games last season because of microfracture surgery on his left knee in February 2009. McGrady has been effusively public in his desire to play for the Bulls, whom he toyed with in 2000 free agency. Derrick Rose, who shares the same agency, joined the chorus over the weekend. On his Twitter account, McGrady, 31, has claimed he is willing to accept a lesser role. Collier’s debt came to $2,325 per resident, nearly three times the state average in fiscal 2008, the most recent year for which state data was available to analyze. In fiscal 2008, the state had the county’s total debt at $774 million.
