IN an unprecedented and dramatic action not seen since Independence in 1980, Finance minister Tendai Biti on Tuesday stormed out of a cabinet meeting during a heated debate among ministers on the Reserve Bank debt restructuring plan, leaving President Robert Mugabe stunned. Official sources said Biti, who only two weeks ago fiercely clashed in cabinet with Mines minister Obert Mpofu over the controversial Chiadzwa diamonds, angrily walked out of cabinet three days ago after a ferocious fight with Zanu PF ministers led by Patrick Chinamasa and Simbarashe Mumbengegwi over the issue which could have "opened a political can of ...
In the majority of cases, however, bankruptcy is initiated by the debtor (a "voluntary bankruptcy" that is filed by the insolvent individual or organization). An involuntary bankruptcy petition may not be filed against an individual consumer debtor who is not engaged in business.

It's the debt, stupid – Bill Gross edition | Credit Writedowns
Just as the Clintonites of 1992 pointed to the economy as the Elephant in the political room, Team Obama should have been pointing to the debt in 2008 and beyond. But they haven’t done so. Instead, they have been pointing to ‘aggregate demand’ as if stimulus would somehow turn a solvency crisis of too much debt into a liquidity crisis of too little something. But they are wrong. 2008 was not 1992 and 2010 is not 1994. I know the Clintonites controlling economic policy in the Administration want to believe that. But it is simply a false analogy. Stimulus alone will not work because the U.S. private sector needs ... market research, surveys and trends

"The only direct funding a host country receives from the proceeds of the World Cup are the ticket sales and the predetermined amount promised by FIFA for hosting. In the past host countries have banked on tourism to compensate for the costs of infrastructure and new stadiums." Veronique de Rugy and Stefanie Haeffele-Balch : In theory, fiscal federalism is a great tool that holds state and local governments accountable for their policy actions. In practice, it hardly exists. House budget raises state spending 3.2 percent; cuts local aid ...
The House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday morning approved a $27.8 billion fiscal 2011 state budget bill that increases overall state spending by 3.2 percent while cutting local aid to cities and towns by $234 million.  Immediately after the committee vote, Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation President Michael Widmer said he expected most of the local aid cut to come from education allocations under the Chapter 70 program and agreed with the assessment that the cut represents the biggest cut in state school aid of the recession cycle.  While targeting school aid that was insulated from cuts this fiscal year and in ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Senate GOP injects election-year tax talk into Casino deliberations
Senate Republicans will try this week to steer the debate over gambling into even more politically treacherous terrain for their Democratic colleagues: taxes. The Upper Chamber’s five-member GOP band intends to force a string of tax relief votes, complaining that they’ve been blocked in past attempts and arguing that there are legitimate policy reasons to press them before the full membership. “We have been frustrated because we haven’t been able to bring up any votes on taxes for almost a year, because every time we do our motions have been ruled out of order,” Senate Minority Leader Richard Tisei ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

The Greek economy, so the argument goes, could not possibly pull off the required austerity program. But back-of-the envelope calculations supposedly showing Greece's inevitable fiscal death are somewhat exaggerated. The slashing ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

What is the best way to consolidate debt and make it affordable ...
I'm doing this right now. It's best if you have or can get a low interest rate loan and pay off balances all in one spot. Debt consolidation companies ARE NOT necessarily the best way to go. Some creditors will not work with these companies. Also, it can reflect negatively on your credit report. I recently transferred two of my three credit card balances to one loan, then cut up the cards. Now, I'm making two payments instead of four, and it had helped a lot. I'd say talk to several credit counselors for ideas. Read a lot of websites. There are plenty out there. Good luck to you! Have a bunch ...
