Save the Volunteer Park Conservatory
I was sadly disappointed to learn that the City of Seattle is considering closing the Volunteer Park Conservatory in an attempt to deal with a $50 Million budget shortfall. My partner and I are regular visitors. Whenever we visit the Conservatory, it is packed with visitors from Seattle and throughout the world. Wonder and delight fill the eyes of children as they revel at rare blooms and exotic foliage. The Conservatory is two years shy of celebrating their 100th Anniversary, and yet the city may make the short sighted decision to destroy the Seattle icon. St. Pete Beach budget keeps property taxes same
ST. PETE BEACH — Next year's proposed city budget calls for no property tax increases, but includes $600,000 in general fund cuts to offset drops in property taxes and other revenues. However, the $13.7 million 2010-2011 budget proposed last week by City Manager Mike Bonfield does not include nearly $100,000 in spending suggested last month by the City Commission. Bonfield said his budget "does not reduce any level of service" provided residents, but cautioned that any extra spending would require the city to either dip into its reserves or impose a "slight increase" in property taxes. No tax on media now but education still hit
The new tax code will not apply to the Ministry of Agriculture and the print media, Finance Minister Kakha Baindurashvili stated while presenting it at a hearing of the Parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee on June 22. The reports that the print media would be taxed are a misunderstanding and should be corrected. It would be inappropriate to tax the press when tax revenues from the press as a whole are less than those from a single ordinary company. The Government has revised its initial plan to cut income tax from 20% to 15% by 2013. According to the proposed draft of the tax code income tax will remain 20% in 2013 but ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
