on 7 July 2008. Due to dissatisfaction with the grand coalition and the two main parties, it was widely expected to be a realigning election , with gains for the opposition and up to seven parties expected to be in the National Council after the election. The losses for the government parties (both the SPÖ and the ÖVP had the worst election result in history) resulted in strong gains for the far right , while neither the Liberal Forum nor the Citizens' Forum Austria (both of which were considered to have chances of gaining seats) gained as much as 2% of the vote, defying earlier expectations. The result of the election was ...

I like the thought of recognizing ‘sunk costs’. The fact that lost money (badly spent) is lost money; it’s important to focus on the next smart move – rather than dwelling on bad ones in the past. Like purchasing 2 crappy vacuum cleaners in a row, or making the same mistake twice in the stock market (done it). Focusing on what to do NEXT, and learning from mistakes is worth more than dwelling. Then again, it’s important sure to not make sunk costs an excuse to go on making mistakes to learn. Whelan offers tax cap questions and answers
Property taxes continue to be New Jersey residents’ number one issue and complaint. As your representative, I want to provide you with an update on the property tax reform efforts taking place in the state Legislature. Recently, the Senate and Assembly passed legislation that the governor signed into law to cap property tax increases to 2 percent. As a prime sponsor of this bill, I can tell you that this represents the best chance for property taxpayers to have much more control over runaway tax increases. Many residents have come up to me or contacted me in my office with questions regarding the proposed cap. Below are the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Cost control and the ACA
One of the odder claims Republicans levy at the Affordable Care Act is that, yes, it does pay for itself and reduce the deficit, but we could've reduced the deficit even more if we had taken all of the policies the bill uses to pay for itself and passed them as part of a deficit reduction package. One answer to that, of course, is that then we wouldn't be covering the uninsured, but that's not a very persuasive argument to people who don't care about covering the uninsured. Another answer, as Jonathan Chait notes , is that there was no chance that would happen: It's highly unrealistic to presume that the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

On September 15, 2004, State District Judge John Dietz ruled Texas' $30 billion system for financing public education unconstitutional. More than 300 school districts brought the lawsuit against the state, contending that the system violated the state constitution by not providing equal educational opportunity. The case was appealed to the Texas Supreme Court. We now hold, as did the district court, that local ad valorem taxes have become a state property tax in violation of Article VIII, section 1-e, as we warned ten years ago they inevitably would, absent a change in course, which has not happened. … To end the ...

Google Answers: New Tax law and preferred dividends
Hello chicagorunner-ga, Whether your preferred stock will be taxed at the lower rate or not under the new tax law will depend on what type of preferred stock you own. Unfortunately, it appears that most preferred stock dividends will not qualify for the lower rate because they considered interest rather than dividends. Only traditional preferred stock dividends, on which the company has already paid taxes, will qualify. According to a USA Today article on the subject titled, “Most preferred stock wouldn't get tax help” http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/taxes/2003-01-09-dividends-cover-preferred_x.htm
